what gearing

Will a mid 10 sec car lose much e.t that is geared for 1\4 mile in the 1\8 its a n\a 393 small block ford

our quickest and fastest passes are geared the same in the 1/8th and 1/4 but every combo is different.

In my 1/8 mi. car, I have run 4.29, then 4.86 and now 4.57 gears.  Surprisingly, my short times (60') didn't noticeably change with any of them.  The 4.86 gears made the launch really violent, the 4.57's calmed it a lot and the 4.29's felt like my wife's Crown Vic. E.T.'s slowed VERY slightly with the taller gears, and mph was best with the 4.86's.  I think my heap would be happy with the 4.57's in the 1/4 mi., so I'm leaving them in there.  In the 1/8 mile, it's chuggung like a diesel, trapping at 6200...but it's extremely consistant.

I guess your decision would be based on how fast you want to spin it in the 1/4 mile traps.

I ran 4:57 ( 4:56 ? ) with my 393 small block rpm's got a little high in the 1/4 60' was in the 1:20's

I think it is all in the combo ! Gearing is apart of it as well as torque converter.

Your combo should be faster than mid 10s IMOP.

My pump gas 393w was 10.76 with 4.11 and 28" tall tire 6.80 1/8 mile. Not earth shattering just something to go by !

Afriend of mine ran a Windsor for years w/488 for his 1/8 mile track. I was trying to talk him into going to Norwalk one year w/me (1/4 mi.) He finally said he would go if he could find a taller gear to use. We installed a 4.11 and to his surprise it 60' the same and ran identicle et as the 88. He stayed w/4.11 and gave his engine a breather. But,most of the time it depends on the car and combo.

i cant decide what gear, currently it has 4.88 gears, i will not run any bracket races in the 1/4 mile, if any 1/4 mile racing is done it will be at tnt or maybe some friendly grudge racing

eagle h beam rods with ross pistons im kinda leaning toward 4.30-4.56 gears with 28 inch tire according to Wallace rpm calculator 4.88 with a 28 inch tire @110 mph is 6400 rpm, i am not sure wht this car will run or the mph i am totally guess in the dark, i want to think it will run 6.40 around 105-110

We have a small block Windsor running 9.4 at 132 with 28" tire a glide and 4:10 gears. Runs 5.98 in the 1/8 same set up

With a c-4 run the 4:30 gear .

With a c-4 run the 4:30 gear .

X2,you won't be far off.

If you already have the 4.88 run it! No need to change it before you try it.I ran 4.86 for years then tried 4.30 but ended up 4.57. Last year I was upgrading and put a 4.30 back in but this combo didn't like it at all so now its 4.86 again!
