cooling a 460 in a 67 mustang

Hello to all.Just installed a 460 C6 into my sons 67 mustang fastback. between the frame rails is 27" if I notch the frame I can get 32" and I am going to try my best on moving the radiator forward as much as I can so that I can run a mechanical fan. Im looking at single pass (standard) dual pass or triple pass radiators. summit/jegs/speedway has some great buys.Any suggestions??? Thanks, tom south florida

I used the BeCool 80817 1000HP module for my 460 69 Mustang. It's a cross flow that sits above the frame rails and you have to trim the radiator support to allow it to move forward and create more room for the fans. It's not a big deal, just basically cut away the part of the support that comes back into the engine compartment. With the short water pump the fans fit behind the radiator as pullers and work great.

It's pricey, but living in Florida and sick of overheating cars, it works fantastic. with a 180 thermostat, the car stays at 180 whenever moving without the fans kicking on and even sitting in traffic when the fans do come on it cools the car down within minutes.

This is why I asked this question.The stock big block rad. fits between the frame rails 26" wide.If I go a little wider, and a 2 pass system I should gain some extra cooling capacity. Im concerned that in the summer heat, stop & go traffic I'll get to a point were you can fry eggs on the hood. Years ago I had a 427 in a 84 corvette. With all the extra cooling work I did you could see the heat waves comming off the hood & when it would rain the rain would turn to steam when it hit the hood.I even drilled 2" holes into the inner fenders to releave the heat.Tom

I hear really good results from the 18" two speed electric swept blade fans from certain Lincoln MKVIII's. Wire through a relay to a temp sensor near the upper hose area of the cores. Or through 2 relays and two different temp sensors if you want to use both speeds. Comes with built in shroud, and it's a pretty easy mount. Cheap at the pic a part yards. Just an idea.

Im using a howe rad. out of summit with a viper fan that is the same as the lincoln fan cool it no problem you can sit in traffic for hour's and stay cool. did woodward dream cruise and idle for hour's

I use a two row (1.25 inch tubes) aluminum radiator I got from summit, V6 ford contour dual fan. Fan assembly is pretty thin, works awesome in my '69 mustang with electric water pump. I have fans wired separately. Fan assembly fits mustang size radiator almost perfectly, 28" I think.
