New Project
I had a new project dropped off this afternoon. It belongs to my buddy Danny Sisk who owns the white '73 Mustang I've shown some pics of before. This is a '57 Ford based off the old MegaFord ProMod body. It's steel roof and 1/4's with glass front end, doors, and decklid from Suncoast. The body is narrowed 3" and the roof chopped, I believe 5". It has a square tube chassis built by another friend of ours, Joe McCoy. I'm going to be doing the wiring and plumbing the brakes and fuel systems, and pretty much get it running. He's got my old iron-head CJ 521 to put in it to start with. That engine has been 5.80 in his 2800+ '73 Mustang. Plans are to finish up a BT headed 521 he has parts for but needs machining and assembly.
Keith Fulp should appreciate this one. LOL

Damn nice!
I have always felt that if you're going to build one of the "bigger" body styles as a full chassis car you might as well do some surgery & scale the body down some to improve the aerodynamics & push less air.

Re: New Project
I have a buddy, here in GA with a perfect 57 Custom street car with a 390 and 4 speed. Those cars have a great body style, sharing doors and many other parts with the 58 Custom.
I keep looking at the Suncoast glass bodies.....they have molds for the standard Custom 300 57 and a 7/8 scale like the pro mods once used. They made a set of glass doors for my 58 (still not installed). I could convert one of those bodies to a 58 with a little work.
I will guess that the target weight for the car pictured will be in the 2400-2500# range, wet and rolling.
What a cool car.....

Thats the weight I'm guessing Keith. I'd really like to see it come in under 2500. The first engine going in it is a filled to the bottom of the water pump holes, stock CJ block with iron heads.
The 'glass doors took extensive reworking to make them fit the steel body. They were intended to be used on the ProMod style 'glass body. I don't remember exactly where they were different, I just know he had them cut into several pieces and glassed them back together.
This body style is great for an extra-large driver. The long mid-section makes for a lot of leg room.
