Stall too loose?? Empty Stall too loose??

Post  feetfirst May 28th 2010, 9:11 am

Fired up my 515 a-headed motor, did a stall check on the transbrake.........7200... Shocked Shocked

This is an Ultimate Converter that was built for a little larger CI BBF a-headed motor, but, exact same weight car, same trans, same gear same everything.....except the motor. It stalled 6600 in this other car, which ran 8.40's at 161...........what does this mean when it goes to 7200 in mine??? Am I making this much more power?
Could be the SV -1 carb, which is absolutely nasty on the response / idle quality......

Guess we will find out tomorrow..... Very Happy Very Happy

Prolly not exactly what it needs but it should not go that high.........converter charge pressures can affect stal. as well. I would think what you have is way too loose like it is.

I'd send it back to ucc and get it restalled. I'm ditching my 8" and going with a 9", mine figured out at 28% slippage at the bash on the first full pass. affraid

might try some different fluid to see if it will tighten up a little too.

28% is leaving a lot on the table Dave! Just think what it will do with a good working converter! Cool

Just picked up some JD hyguard, will try this first to get a baseline on what needs to be done.

28% out the back door is insane, dfree.....I just can't see this one being loose in the top, but we will see....

9" is too small of a diameter IMO.

with that much power you will not see any or very minimal difference with the JD oil. just send it back and get it done right. that seems like an awfully small converter for that combo. the smallest we've ever ran was a 9.5"

Well, I'm still reeling from the worst shakedown of a complete new chassis, and drivetrain combo ever..... Mad

Never made a full pass.........4 rocker bolts pulled clean out of the head, and to top it off, destroyed a brand new slick coming out of the burnout box, caught the front of the wheel well, and turned the fender lip, ripping it right out, and slicing the tire clean thru all the way around.......

The only thing I can think of, is im glad all this happened when it did, and its funny, the car stayed up till I rolled to the beams, and when I stopped, it tilted back/to the right.........must of been the anti roll bar keeping the car up......

Oh well, at least all the cards are on the table now.......hope to have some decent results shortly.... Embarassed

Well, I got 5 passes in, but now have what I found is an ignition issue. Motor starts to break up pretty bad over 1/2 throttle...........soooooh, ran all weekend pretty much at half throttle trying to find the issue.

We tried a new carb ( dale cubic dominator) thought maybe the SV1 was the issue, tried 16 volt battery setup (from twin 12 volt yellow tops) to increase spark........no avail.

Come to find out the ignition system is maxxed out, and the coil is severely overloaded, and getting weaker every run. What I failed to realize is that cylinder pressures play a HUGE part in how much spark is required!!!!!!!

I don't really want to post, but my et's dont matter at this point until I get it resolved, but it did go 5.80 to the 1/8th at one point so far, and it goes straight!!!!....... Very Happy

Here is a pic.......whole new ride.............25.5 chassis with 29.5 x 10.5's.......with bars... Embarassed

It seems I have found its limits, going from 9.5-1 @ 175 compression to 14.6-1 @ 230+ compression.......

Time for a digital 7 anyways, to control my launch Very Happy
