Maybe this will help people with converter selection. I will post the rest soon.

Fourth converter finally works

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Put my newest converter in last night, and it stalled around 4900-5000 on the trans brake. I am going to the track tonight to try it out.

Last weekend I carried the car with a converter that was stalling 57-5800 and it ran a 5.83 with a 1.33 60 ft. Only got two passes before the rain came.

With some help from Bill Mitchel here on our board I got the car to hook again. It ran two 1.33 60's back to back , with the leave rpm as low as it would go on the trans brake at 3000 rpm.

The tires had a good wear pattern across the face where at the bash it was smooth on the center 5 inches of the face and had a pattern on the outside 2.5 inches on each side.

It will be leaving about 200 rpm above the torque peak now with the new converter .

The air has been terrible here for the last month, but the long range forecast is calling for lows in the 50's next weekend and dryer. Maybe I can see some 70's next weekend 😉

Good luck Blake!! Just be ready when you launch that torque monster right at peak tq. I think it's going to get interesting fast... So was this a 9",10", or 73" converter this time?

Not that dramatic, just that an MSD box needs full voltage to work right.

Sorry for the delay guys, I got up early and spent all day with Lem and Charlie, even got to see Livermore Dave and Jet Boat Bob.

I had a wire shorting out on the small switched wire to the MSD and it was killing the voltage to the 7AL box. It ran a 6.36 at 111 on the first run and after looking at the Tach when it left off the trans brake at 3000 it never jumped to where the converter stalled to (5000) It just kind of lazily climbed to 6800 and shifted fell to 5500 and crossed the lights at about 5900 at the 1/8th .

The engine would barely idle and blew black smoke out of the headers all the way down the track and did it the worst when it shifted into high.

At that point I really didn't know what the problem was. I thought maybe I just didn't get it cleaned out before the launch and because of it being idled in the shop for two weeks maybe it was just loaded up with fuel.

But I did notice that it was surging as it was going down the track, and when I watched the play back tach ( Jon thanks for making me buy it ) I could see it stop climbing when the tach was playing back at 1/3 ird speed and actually losing a couple of hundred rpm at a couple of points on the run and then gaining it back.\

The next run ( still pondering the problem ) I decided to raise the launch rpm to 4000 and clear it out good as I staged it and see what would happen . Well it ran a 6.26 @ 112mph and died right before crossing the lights.

After spending 45 minutes in the dark at the end of the track on the return road I finally found the shorted wire and cut it lose and ran it straight to a 12 volt source and it fired up and started idling at 1500 rpm and reved clean like it always has.

Reviewing the tach again for that run, it actually showed the tach falling to 0 rpm twice at the end of the run before it shut completely off .

I think Keith and I are snake bit. Rolling Eyes It is hard to say anything about the converter as the engine was so down on power that I couldn't tell anything about it. I do know that when it shifted into high, it hit harder than before , it was brutal, and it dropped about 1300 rpm.

I have video of all my runs here at home but I can't get them loaded on the computer to put them on the board. Damon even tryed to help but couldn't.

Chris it is a small 10 inch TH-04 PTC .

Bruno the way I keep going to the track and the car keeps backing up it may never run 5.70's :?

I will be going to test tonight as well, air should be decent. Just gonna try and make it hook somehow. I will also do a gas - alky swap just to see what the diff is.

Looks like a mafia track report late tonight.
