E-85 fuel for racing

Hey.. has anyone experimented with e85 fuel in a 14-1 drag motor.. this race gas is getting high...

From my understanding the octane rating of E-85 is about 100 or so. I'd say running much over about 11.5:1 in an unrestricted engine would be pushing your luck.

ive got a buddy with a 408 and a 76 mm turbo that runs e-85 with no issues at all he makes about 750 hp with mild boost

I will be once i get a few things sorted out on my car... I checked out several forums about e85 and did a bunch of reading. Some searching here and on the other forum will get you in touch with a few guys that have some actual experience with it too. Main thing is testing fuel, as it is not the same pump to pump, season to season, and having a good understanding of the tuning required. There is more to it than just octane ratings, the combo needs to be set up right also. Carl has been playing with it for a while, and offers some carb conversions/advice as well.

I've been running it for 3 years and have had no issues at all. I get it straight out of the pump and never have tested it. I just check the O2 sensor and if it's way out of wack I'll either get another batch of fuel or re-tune it. IMHO people get way to worked up over the mixture.

Just make sure you get some kind of O2 sensor. You don't need to do anything special to it for E85. Just leave it calibrated for gasoline and tune for the same numbers as you would if you were running gas.


The car made 1016rwhp last year and it's about to get WAY more interesting this year..................
