Chinese New Year at Car Craft Empty Total fail

Post  jasonf April 13th 2010, 10:55 am

I was just reading and what a joke. It is too bad because Richard Holdner usually makes some very good motors. He should have known better that's for sure.

557, Pro Crap cnc heads, XR 274 comp roller cam, weiand tunnel ram and two 750's = 615 hspr. Talk about total fail.

Yeah, I got my copy Friday. It's like they got tired of being accused of running a Chevy magazine, so they decided to do a Ford BB build, but stuck with all the tired, worn-out myths of Ford engines: it's too expensive to build power, it's easier to use Chevy parts (as with the rockers), blah blah blah.

Pathetic, unimaginative, and "cheap" in more ways than one.

I guess they don't get PHR.

I though about this again and it's kinda good to have a total turd built by a chevy magazine...... The won't believe what hit them when a real one gets a piece of them.

Hell, Charlie and I made 750 out of a basic p51 headed 466 !!! Only thing special was the cam, everything else was as basic as it gets.

Dave,

You forgot to mention that was a pump gas engine too.

I read it online. Was it really that bad? We can all agree that using the procomp stuff is kind of silly and pandering to sponsors, BUT, the thing made some good torque and had a teeny weeny cam....

I sure do wish they would've used SCJ heads, though.

oh well... Rolling Eyes

you can't deny, however, that the BBF has been getting a lot more attention by the magazines lately, which is a good thing IMO. Heck, I'm even seeing articles on FE's.

Wouldn't that have something to do with the very small camshaft, though? I'd say this is a case where we're getting too wrapped up in peak #'s and wanting to bash.

NOT that I would ever use those heads...just sayin cyclops

It would make some more with a bigger stick but that's not the magic problem.

Here's some math to consider

Car Craft

557 CID / 615 hp = 1.10 hp per CID

466 CID x 1.10 = 512 hp (is this impressive? Project cheap skate should woop these numbers by at least 50-75hp ???? With a FT cam and single 4......)

Charlie's 466

466 CID / 750 hp = 1.60 hp per CID

557 CID x 1.60 = 890 hp

I realize this isn't exact numbers or scientific but it explores the real result
