Air Pan Ideas

For early Mustang 1969 with a 5" cowl hood.
I am thinking about attaching an aluminum sheet with a large hole to the bottom of the hood and use the Moroso drop base on the dominator before the hood is attached. There are limitations on this but I dont know another method to make an air pan with this setup.

If those of you that have this type of hood and car could give me some ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Most of the functional ones I have seen have an aluminum belly pan attached to the carb with a foam sealing around the outside, kinda like a GTO, GS 455 Ram Air setup but with a way bigger hole and a lot more foam.

Or a combination of both. Hood hinges cause the hole in the hood to be slightly oval shaped so foam around a Moroso base should solve any sealing issues.

This design looks like the ticket for me. Its simple and easy to make. My carb flange is a little higher but it should work well. I can trim the sides after the hood is fitted and use foam on the sides. Going back to an air cleaner for street use is easy as well.

No problem. Instead of foam I used the c channel stuff from Mcmaster Carr.

Just have to know what height you will be at.

Then take a piece of yarn and tape to the back of cowl and observe it going down track. If it goes in towards the carb..... Your good.

I'd expect you will be fine.
