I have a cast iron block 545 with P51 heads and the ford intake manifold. the msd crank trigger distributor #8569 is too short for the manifold. I have the crank trigger installed and need a solution for a crank trigger distributor. I do have a magnetic trigger distributor but can I use it and would I have to lock out the advance weights?

You can use pretty much any distributor you want...but the crank trigger takes the place of any triggering system in the distributor. Remove the distributor electronics and lock the timing. Timing adjustments will be made at the crank trigger. Rotor phase will be adjusted at the distributor.

Best bet is to download a set of crank trigger setup instructions from MSD or Moroso.

MSD used to have a tall trigger diz like this in the catalog.

You can still get to the same place....351W unit with a 460 gear.

Yes, you can remove the springs and wts and lock up a std diz.
