New tools in the garage,.... Empty New tools in the garage,....

Well,......
I'm in need of a true 10pt roll CAGE for my truck, instead of a 6pt roll BAR that I've had for several years now.

I contacted a couple of different shops about doing a turn-key job, BUT,..... most of them were several months out (time wise)

SO,.....
I decided to buy/build my own bender and do the fabricating myself.   pirat

It's a combination deal that consists of a JD Squared (Model 32) manual tubing bender, http://www.jd2.com/p-67-model-32-bender-manual.aspx that I converted to air/hydraulic system and a Harbor Freight (Pittsburg Tool), Tubing Roller # 99736. http://www.harborfreight.com/tubing-roller-99736.html

Here's a short video from John Bailey, guy that designed the frame assy,....

http://www.dbtindustrial.com/#

I bought the blueprints from Ebay for $9.99

I did a couple of test bends on some scrap tubing and it did great. Can't wait to start using it to build a new roll cage for my truck,......and other projects that come along.

You may want to check out SWAG offroad as they offer some upgrades that you might be interested in.

^^^^This.

The powered stuff is 100% perfectly fine to use. But doing it manually gives you the added ability to do stuff like giving the pull bar a series of very small repeated tug/release pulls (in a row) at the end of a bend. This can help to "set" the bend & better control the amount of possible spring-back.

That's not really an option for me, due to the fact that if I used it manually, I'd have to bolt it to the floor.
My garage is only a 24x24, so my space is REALLY limited.

bbf-falcon wrote:How big of a shoe can you use?

2-1/2" is the biggest round tubing it will bend.
Way more than I'll ever need.

The dies are EXPENSIVE though.

Yep,......
Already familiar with them.  They make some cool stuff.    I have one of their porta-band stands and it's awesome.
I'm going to get a couple of sets of dies to work with my tubing roller. I want to be able to roll specific size tubes in a smooth radius,...if need be.

The reason I ask is, you might need a header tube bent.

Sadly,......
It won't bend material that thin.
