what motor mounts do I need to get to put a 460 into a 351 modifieds place on a 79 ford?

Advance adapters makes them pretty cheap, but I think they're solid. If thats an issue, L&L along with some other companies, just more $.

Get a motor plate from Randy Malik and forget the motor mounts.

I have the solid steel ones in my 78 Bronco. Fit is perfect, the fan lines up in the OE shroud just like its supposed to. Over on FSB, I have read of numerous failures of the L&L mounts. I have also read that 390 mounts will work, if turned sideways, but I have no first hand knowledge of that. If you are using cast manifolds, be aware that SOME passenger car manifolds will not clear the frame rails. Truck manifolds from the 70s fit best, and they have 2.5" outlets. If your truck is 4wd, be ready for interference between the ps pump, and the gearbox. L&L sells a ps mount that raises the pump up to clear, but the mount is over 100 bucks.

I used these mounts from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard. I haven't broken them yet.

If the tranny is an automatic, make sure the convertor studs are aligned with the holes in the flexplate, BEFORE you tighten the bellhousing bolts.

If the tranny is a manual, get four tranny bolts that are 2" longer than the original tranny bolts. Cut the heads off the new bolts, and grind a slot in the ends. Insert the new "bolts" in the bellhousing. These bolts will help you get the tranny aligned, before you hit the clutch plate. Once you get the tranny stabbed all the way, unscrew the longer bolts with a large flat tip screwdriver, and replace with the original bolts, one at a time.

what about the oil pan? I was told that I would need to get a deep sump oil pump and pan for the motor to fit into the truck. Is this also something I could get off of a 390?

If the truck is a 4x4, you should swap over to a rear sump oil pan. All the parts are available, thru Ford. If its a 2wd, you can use a front sump oil pan. I have done 3 engine replacements where the owners used a front sump in a 4wd, and stuffed the front diff into the pan, while off roading.
