Performer RPM mis match Empty Performer RPM mis match

Here are pictures of a performer RPM intake and head for an FE.

Huge miss match.............. Second picture is after port matching.

The intake ports before porting matched a stock re-builder 302 intake gasket perfectly. Very small.

You would think a performer RPM would match.

There are a couple of different std ports on the FE's, I'm guessing they are aiming in the middle for the opening.

YES ... those manifold ports are "medium riser" height and "D2TE truck" size and will fit all the FE heads ... better to small than to big.
That manifold actually works quite well "out of the box"; (not that it can't work better).

I wouldn't call it middle of the road, when the ports are 302 size, I took out over .200 on the width and over .100 at the roof, It was like porting a set of heads.

Maybe it was made to fit the smallest, there for you can port to fit all the FE heads. What was the smallest FE a 331 cubic inch? Probably would fit well on it.

Because the intake port is so very short and the pushrods pass through the intake manifold, that is essentially the smallest cross-section, like a "pushrod pinch" in a normal wedge head.
The D2TE head has about the smallest area intake port.

Fe stuff is always a lot of work... lol. Randy is correct though that manifold does seem to work very well out of the box. I have a ported version and a unported one and I didn't realize how small they are... I just try not make the runners hour glass shaped... what ya building? hope it all works out for ya blake.

It's a 10:1 428 .030 over. Going in a 69 notch mustang with a top loader. Main oil ports were almost completely covered over with the main bearing, head gaskets water ports all mis matched. I fixed all that.

It has been a pain in the butt. I also enlarged the oil gallery from the pump mounting flat through the block down to the oil filter adapter. It was barely .3125 dia very small and had sharp edges in the transition area.

I enlarged it to .4375 and smoothed the entire length. Main clearance is @ .002 on the mains, It is a street deal with a HV oil pump and a good pan. Should be a fun ride. Trying to decide on the cam. He wants a hyd flat tappet, thinking something around a 246 253 on a 108 .602 .613

What you thing about that? Its a close ratio, I may carry the sep out more

I'd put a little less cam for a street ride, maybe 6-8 degrees less.

Blake you might run into valve control/lifter issues with that big of a hydraulic cam in an Fe. Normally I go solid Flat tappet and more spring pressure on the seat for anything Fe that wants to run over 5500 rpm. Valves/valvetrain etc I think are just too heavy for the hydraulic lifter to stay in control. Id either go a little smaller/ less aggressive hydraulic or convince the owner to go solid flat tappet. The cam you got specified should want to be shifted around 6000ish rpm with what ya got there for parts. Sounds like you got the block oiling under control also. I usually don't monkey with the main feed holes/ bearings. I do drill/port/blend the oil pump to block adapter passage and the adapter itself... also radius the block where the oil filter adapter attaches. Its a bunch of work but sure keeps the bearings happy. Hope my rambling helps a little Smile take care buddy
