i finally got the new car down the track today. Smile  one problem i have is psi drop at the end of the track. some of you may recall the shut down at us43 aint very long but still has plenty of room to stop. if i jump on the brakes at the stripe it'll drop to 10 psi then recover if i let up but go back to damn near 0 when i turn off. it will jump back up to 70 quick as i get back on the gas but damn! affraid i never got a full pass made and only hit 128 mph on the last pass. this aint gona work out Crying or Very sad  it holds 70psi hot,kaase pump,20/50 green oil.and this pan.... what am i missing? oil psi issues Valvecovers009

I agree that accu. is a must,but was also wondering about oil drainback issues w/block/heads.

Until you decide how to control the oil, is shifting into neutral after the stripe a possibility?

It sounds as though the oil is flowing away from the pickup screen at deceleration. You need to take a good look at that pan and figure out what pan mods are necessary to keep the oil around the pickup and the pickup screen submerged in oil.

I thought about accusump or dry sump.i had 8 qts in it to start with and put 1 in after the first pass but it did'nt help any.i have restrictors in the front and back with .072 hole in them. I did hit neutral and kill the motor the last pass but that was real hard on the brakes:o

Those brakes are made for stopping .... I think that's what Nancy sang! Choose your poison, brake maintenance or engine damage. IMO, click to neutral and let the engine idle, at idle it will survive with low oil pressure, I'm not sure it will do the same at a high engine speed.

Just a note, if that pan and a properly located sump can't provide pressure with eight quarts plus of oil, there may be mechanical issues with the oil supply system. True, with more oil in the pan, it's difficult to control. The oil restrictors you mention are not adding to the problem, it's down low in the supply area.

9 qts is the bare minimum for that pan. It's the same style pan that KY ran for three years on his P51 engine. I'm sure he will check back in but, I think he wound up with 10 qts.

I ran 10 quarts in mine , 9 1/2 would keep the oil pressure about 25-30 lbs but i just went with 10 made it easy to remember lol.

Here are some pics of my bearings out of that engine it had been beat to death 20 % nitro and m-5 . The bearings looked great , i did not use an accumilator and always ran schaefer oil and a jomar filter .

X2,Made a believer out of me when I was about 100'past finish line and just happened to notice my op drop down to 20#,about that same time the accu sump took over and the op came up to 60#. I remember thinking "cool".Wink

its just too simple to fix your issue this way.........a man needs to enjoy his track time not fight bullshit issues.

I've got that same pan and pump. .064 and .032 oil restrictors for valve train. Extra drainback holes and slicked up the originals. Valley painted with glyptol for faster drain back. Brad Penn 10W30 oil.

Honestly didn't know it was a 9 or 10 qt deal. I thought it was 7+ filter.

I run 7.5 + 2 qts for an accumulator. Total of 9 .5 qts. Hard on the brakes in a short shutdown the pressure will drop from 70 ish down about 15-20 before the accumulator catches it and it shoots back up as fast as it went down. 15-20 is not a lot, but at that point the engine is not under load.
The Moroso accumulator is plumbed into the block above the oil filter using -10 line and all straight fittings.


No ill effects so far. Knock on wood.
