hey guys, lifetime Blue Oval lover here looking for some advice. shop I work at just picked up a beautiful '70 Cobra. has a stock 429 CJ all the way down to the Quadrajet and iron intake D0OE heads and exhaust manifolds and 4speed with 3:50 gears. we want to add a bit of power but it's been awhile since I've purchased '385' stuff. we are thinking of a comp extreme energy 274 hydralic and roller tip rockers. we have to keep the q-jet and manifolds in place per owner...thoughts, suggestions? thank ya'lll, alan

i'm not too up on the stock'ish parts for a BBF. i'd give you advice if i had any but i'm sure some of the others will be in to help you out.a little port work could be a plus on the stock heads too.

You will have some head work to do for the use of the 274 the xe274h I have is .562 .565 lifts you will need to cut the valve guides for the higher lift .Stock heads for what I understand will only go to .540 lift with no valve seals.I would talk with a cam builder like Randy M at rmcomprandy on here or Lem at BF Evens race Parts and have a custom cam disigned for it.
