Removing a 289 from a 65 comet that had been restored to install a 427 crate. The block number is c5ae-6015e. Wondering if this block is valuable in general or just to this car. Was going to purchase the engine for 600 now customer wants alot more thinking is a hipo block. No spring pockets in heads and small damper.

Nope, its just a regular 289, nothing special. Although check to see if it is a 5 bolt bellhousing deal instead of 6.

Slurm check the main caps,if they are the same thickness from top to bottom they are hi po if they start out wide at the block and then neck down narrower about 2/3 of the way up then there standard.That's really the only difference between the standard and hipo block,they even use the same casting as some standard blocks and fitted them with the wider caps hence the claim that it is a hipo.No spring pockets and skinny balancer points toward non hipo but you never know what got swapped around.

A C5AE-E is a 6 bolt block and was common to BOTH lo po and hi po. ONLY the main caps were different. Once the block casting number was put into print and spread all over the internet, EVERY block became a HiPo block. $100 block to someone who cares about dates. many use later blocks thinking the cylinders are longer for the 302 stroke.

thanks for the info. Many a tire kicker stop by to pull a valve cover and say they are going to buy it. Then crickets.......
