Wire the normaly closed side of the relay (+) to the shiftnoid, I just use a toggle down by the shifter to supply ground and arm the thing so its not always how when the power is on.

When the relay is activated the pole will go open and release the shiftnoid.

Here's what I did last night. You will need a relay. Do you know if your relay has a diode built into it across the coil? If it does the NEGATIVE and POSITIVE must go on certain terminals. Otherwise it will not "trigger" the relay.

1) Place a jumper wire between the "IGN" terminal and the "RAS ON/OFF" on the MSD box. This tells the MSD box that it needs to output a negative on the "OUTPUT RAS" terminal when it hits the desired RPM

2) Ground the negative side of the shift solenoid.

3) Run a wire from the "OUTPUT RAS" terminal to the NEGATIVE side of the coil on the relay. I used terminal 86. I used a piece of 16 gauge wire. The "OUTPUT RAS" on the MSD box outputs a NEGATIVE, NOT A POSITIVE!!!

4) Run a wire from the POSITIVE side of the battery to the POSITIVE side of the coil on the relay. I used terminal 85. I used a piece of 16 gauge wire for this as well.

5) Run a wire from the POSITIVE side of the battery to terminal 30 on the relay. I used a piece of 12 gauge wire for this.

6) Run a wire from terminal 87 to the POSITIVE wire on the shift solenoid. I used a piece of 12 gauge wire for this as well.

7) Next turn on power to the car. You can test this all without starting the car and bringing the RPMs up by jumping a negative from the chassis or battery to the negative side of the relay. This will energize the relay and send 12VDC to the shift solenoid.

Here's the text from the MSD Instructions---- You can download the PDF instructions from the MSD site.

RPM ACTIVATED SWITCH
The RPM Activated Switch (RAS) Output will turn on a component such as a shift light or nitrous solenoid
at an adjustable rpm point by supplying a ground path. The RPM Switch is capable of handling a 10
amp load. If 12 volts is required to activate the component, use an MSD Relay, PN 8960 or 8961.
The 7AL-3 also features an "RAS On/Off" for the RPM Activated Switch. To use the RPM Switch, 12
volts must be connected to the “RAS-On/Off” terminal located at the top of the third terminal strip.
Whenever the 12 volts is removed from this terminal, the RPM Activated Switch will not operate.
Figure 8 Connecting the Three Step Module Selector.

Basic Wiring: This example illustrates how to connect the RAS to activate a shift light at 7,000 rpm
(Figure 9).
1. Connect the Gray wire to the RAS On/Off terminal and to a switched 12 volt source. This "prepares"
the RAS circuit so when the desired rpm is reached the "Output Ras" will provide a ground to activate
the light. A jumper is supplied to connect the "IGN" terminal to the RAS ON/OFF.
2. Connect the Yellow wire to the "RAS Output" terminal and the other end to the ground side of the
shift light. Note: Twelve volts must be connected to the other side of the light.
3. Place a 7,000 rpm module in the RAS plug. When the engine reaches 7,000 rpm, a ground path
for the shift light will be supplied and the light will turn on. Note: The light will remain on until the
rpm falls 5% below the amount of the module. When you shift, the rpm drops and the light turns
off until 7,000 rpm, when a ground path is again provided and the light turns on.
