Converters Empty Converters

Post  Moodyblues August 16th 2010, 11:23 am

I have a 77 tube chassis Mustang II that was built to run TS. Dove headed 514, PG, and 4.88 gear, weighs 2350 w/o me, 4 link. I race the local 6.0 index class. Last saturday night I busted the converter. It's a 5500 8" and I was leaving at 3800 to slow the car down to run the 6.0 class and I think that caused too much pressure on the converter. Car leaves hard and I know that is the torque of a 514. Car will run 5.70s.

I am thinking about going to a 9" at about 4800 stall so I can run the class and not hurt the converter.

What do u run? Kenny Ford built mine and I was leaving at 5000. What are your thoughts?

Greg Slack @ Convertor Design Specialist. He races BBF's himself so he is very familiar with our engines. His convertors are really great and he is a super nice guy to deal with.

I've got a UCC and love it. Lenny will hook you up right, and restall/rebuild is really reasonable. Cool

Russ, since your converter was made by PTC, I would send it back to them. They can make any changes you want and have great customer service. Plus, since you run the 6.0 class you might give ORSCA a shot when they are at Huntsville or Steele. Kenny races in 7.00 and PTC pays contingency for 5.30, 6.00 and 7.00 at the ORSCA races.

You are also close enough to drive over and deliver it to them. They have done several for me while I waited. About 3.5 hrs from delivery to pickup.

Also, if you have been a customer for a while Kenny will give you a dang good price for your old one if you step up to something better.

He did for me............ Cool
