Greg invited me over from The TorinoCobra.com Forum (where I'm blue70conv) and he didn't even have to bribe me with beer!

I have a 429 in my 1970 Torino Convertible and I have a '63 Fairlane that's a future candidate for big block transplant surgery. It's already equipped with the chassis and suspension goodies, so it just needs the power (and some seats).

I didn't see a Gallery, so I guess the point of request is as good a location as any. The car pictures below are links to the corresponding photobucket galleries.

This is my 1970 Torino GT Convertible. It was originally a 302 car but my misguided youthful enthusiasm lead me to wedge a 429 (D1VE block) into it. The engine build is nothing special (C8 heads and D5 intake with D5 exhaust manifolds). However, it leaks oil so I'm going to use that as an excuse (soon) to pull the engine and freshen it up with better heads and intake.

Video if it running.

The engine during teardown. Odd note: the previous owner changed the oil filter stud Evil or Very Mad so I have to use a filter for a mid-90s Cherokee.

I bought this 1963 Fairlane Hardtop dirt cheap off of Craigslist. The PO was building a serious dragster for his son, who up and decided he was a Chevy guy one night affraid (I guess it's contagious!). Anyway, it's already fitted with a 6-point roll cage, tube chassis and ladder bars. I haven't delved too deeply into what was done but it all seems to be of good quality (i.e. the roll cage goes through the floor to the tube chassis instead of just attaching to the floor pans).

...im very jealous of those hidden head lamp doors! one fell off my car like weeks after I bought mine (in 1992) and ive never found affordable replacements (that arent trashed).... ive seen N.O.S. ones at swap meets go for $500!!!

Yeiks! Yeah, they're not cheap for sure. Mine are secured with jewler's screws through the back of the headlight doors. I would recommend doing this if you ever decide to fork out for new ones.

There are some repops out there if you're interested in going that route. I don't know if there are any places doing good plastic chroming like the originals, but that might ultimately be a cheaper route.

Laughing Damn, I was hoping you'd forget that conversation. No homebrew for you!

Just because your's are giving you trouble doesn't mean they're all bad.

Thanks 56Tbird!
