Will a stock length work or do they need to be longer? Anybody know the ARP part number I need?

I'm not aware of a ARP bolt kit....takes the stud kit for the BT heads....longer on the exh. side .

That's what I needed to know.

Do I need to use the 12pt nuts for any clearence issues near the valvetrain? I noticed that using the stock bolts for mockup is a little tight around the rocker stud bosses.

John,

What Lem said is correct,,,,and I think it's better to get the 12 pt. nuts. This let's you use a smaller socket, and than the hex nuts. Check for socket clearance to the guide plates. On Randy's P-51 headed engine Lem and I needed to grind a little bit off of the left hand side of the guide plates, and I'll need to do the same with my P-51 headed engine.

Hope this helps,
Charlie

As lem and Charlie said "use the 12 point nuts" I have the normal hex nuts and the socket fouls on the guide plate. I had to torque the head down first, then fit the plates.
It makes it a PITA when was time to do a re-torque.
Cheers Colin.

Are bolts available in 12pt, or just studs?

12 point bolts ARE available from ARP as are smaller 5/8" headed head bolts.
BT heads use a different length bolt/stud araingement than other production based heads.

I used stock bolts with thin washers. It seems fine after 2 years. The exhaust bolts should be longer though.

I use the ARP head bolt kit for the eddy heads. Exhaust bolts are slightly longer. They are 12 point by the way.
