Guy's correct me if i'm wrong. On most stock blocks, they will only go to 4.440 bore, so be careful about running the 2.35 intake valve on the A head . The experts can explain the reasons better than me.

A 1.94" exh. is what can hit on a 4.390 bore . The smaller bores hinder performance but nothing should hit if the 2.300/2.350/1.88 valves are used .

so a460 heads will work i wanna do 4.3 crank 6.8 rods and .030 ithink its a 521 .......ive heard that 4.5 crank is not as good as the 4.3 due to pistons wrist pn coming real low in cylinder ..........

so the 2.35 valves on a 4.390 bore will work? wil no problem

the only thing you have to remember is they take specific pistons, specific headers, and A-460 intake, longer pushrods, specific stud girdle for the heads. so these are not just bolt on's......yes they will work with that small bore but the valves will be shrouded and not perform up to their potential.....

well I guess I have a defective engine them cuz mine builds a Butt Load of HP and huge Torque.... affraid
Schmitty I guess you need to get rid of your 4.5 stroke engine also cuz it ain't right, Truth is it doesn't make a S%&T either way, don't run it you feel scared, what I can't understand is you wanting to run a big high end head on a small bore???? what are you afraid to bore the block out to 4.44, or 4.42????

I see you want to build 800 hp I would get a set of SCJ's from Lem setup for Roller and a nice victor with a 1150 Dominator and have Lem help spec you a cam and run with it....

im not afraid to go bigger bore i just thought d1ve block was only good to .080 over and i figuared go smaller so if i wanted to re do again theres some material still there ?

i was also lookin at the p51 heads .....

like i said before in another post im coming from a car that was vortech t trim supercharger, on a 331 ,accel dfi stand alone ect...was running 10.30s .............

ive never built a bbf , this new car im building is gonna be bbf , motorplate ect......

i have a d1ve block 4 bolt on centers , hardblock to bottom of water pump holes ......want to get my 88 lx coupe in the mid to low 9s
gotta buy internals i read the 4.5 cranks pull kirt down real far ...maybe i mis read this ......

i want to do all motor prob 13.1to13.5.1 compression using a glide

if u guys have a simple route for this heads/intake/stroke ect...... shed some light would be greatly appreciated
efi was great but was miserable to tweak and was a pain in the balls

ok look at it like this ,,, a set of Pistons are close to a $1000 bucks factory blocks are a cheap, buy the pistons you want. if it wears out you can get another Block way cheaper than a set of pistons....

I and many many other run 4.5 cranks, 1000's out there run 4.5 cranks. I prefer the 4.5 for bigger engine with a 6.8 rod. I have a 552 making in access of 800 and over 760 ft lbs of torque and my cam is small I also have small TFS Streets a victor and 1250 Quick Fuel Carb. I have everything to put an A460 engine together, and will someday but I am going to try and break 900hp with this combo first......

If you are building a race only engine take the Compression up like about 14.5 these engines seem to love it in that range, I have 13.3 and want more...I am going bigger cam in the near future and see if it will handle it.....

so the 4.5 crank realy isnt that big a deal then i must of misread or was mis informed thank u a lot ...... it seems to me that a 500-557 ci motor , with any realy aftermarket aluminum head , with decent carb,intake and cam with some good compression is gonna be in the 700-800hp range not that hard ......seems like these motors like u said like lots of compression , ive noticed alot of guys running 14.1 ect.....on c116

If 800 or so is the goal, a well set up TFS Street head will do it, or step up a notch and go with the SCJ/P51 style. All of these heads use the standard intake and exhaust ports, and are a lot less costly to do. If you are wanting some more in the future, by all means to the A heads as they are a great set of heads and work well with a lot of different combinations. The A heads are capable of over 1100hp. KY Mustang is running a P51 combo that is 950hp or so and is one of the most powerfull examples of an engine with these heads. It will be at least a couple grand more to do the A's vs. P51 by the time you add up all of the specific parts to build. An A460 or IDT block would be a good investment to contain this combo also. Some have made way more than this amount of power with the factory blocks, but if it was my high dollar parts, I'd want a bank vault around them. Cool

got a full chromoly 25.5 sportsman cage ,mini tubbed ect

A P51 engine like Randy Moore's is not very much more than a same sized A460 style engine . The intake manifold being the biggest extra expense of the A460 package .

now you have to realize the 10 inch tire is going to take one hell of a beating when you unleash 750+ torque to them and they will be a handful to stick... yes it can be done but it aint easy.

my block should be capable of handling this type of power right?
4bolt miloden main caps and harblock


im just lookin for best combo for oney to get my car into mid to low 9s with a glide ,,just for track use only

want a combo idea and then pursue it ...not go back and forth ya know ...hopefully this helps guys thanks so far

Totally agree on all of the "ford port" heads will make power...why not if starting a fresh build put on a set of heads that "start" making power where the others start falling of..plenty of room to always grow,cause you now you will always want to go faster.
