Replacement Camshaft Empty Replacement Camshaft

Post  RedDragonCobra December 28th 2022, 1:50 pm

First post in a long time, I need help please! I have a 2003 Superformance Shelby Cobra fitted with a Ford Racing Big Block 466 cid engine that has just been diagnosed with a worn cam lobe on the #8 cylinder and we've now got the cam out and this is the only damaged lobe. Can't establish when this wear started, I've had the car since 2015 and the mileage then was only 3000 miles ( yes in 12 years!). I've done a further 6000 miles since then and have run the engine on Valvoline VR1 20w/50 oil.
The Ford cam fitted to this 2013 FRPP engine M-6007-B460 engine is designated as a FRPP M-6250-C460. Summit Racing list the part but it's out of stock.
Can anyone please help with sourcing a new one or helping me chose a suitable replacement, I have all the lifts and durations of this cam but don't know the subtleties of cam selection.
The inlet is a Ford M-9424-G429 'Victor Jnr' single plane inlet manifold with a Holley Double Pumper on top and the engine is stated as being ideal for 'Bracket Racing'.
I'd be very happy fitting an identical Cam but happy to look at something more 'Street' without compromising the stunning performance.
ANY HELP MOST WELCOME. (I live in the UK)

About the closet one I have found. Intake events 16.5/48.5, Exhaust 61.5/13.5. The C460 cam is listed at 16/48 and 61/13. The Lunati has a little more lift. Both 110 LSA

That C460 cam is 244/254@.050" with .588"/.612" valve lift so, it is a pretty big hydraulic camshaft.
Being in the UK, I think you would probably want a catalog cam which is a little smaller.

Catalog listed as a Marine camshaft the CompCams 34-241-5 / XM278H would be very close to the manners you are looking to get.
That cam is very similar to the Ford cam, M-6250-A433, just under what you have

If you are looking for something in stock as most HFT 460 Ford Performance cams are not in stock, I found this one, that supposedly is. Claimed to ship to UK also. Do as you like with it but, it's about the only one on Ebay close and they only show 146 listings now for BBF in stock and they are mostly RV type cams.. Also on Google search's for these cams in stock are very slim pickings.

It is pretty close to the C460 with a wider 112LSA and slightly less lift with the same 244/254 at .050" duration.

It is a Comp.Cams XM288H-12

Like Randy said the smaller version of the XMarine is pretty close to the A443 cam, but they are out of stock also along with the Edelbrock RPM version of it with the 108 LSA.

He also has this one if you want milder.

From the stock at Summit and Jegs I have seen you will just have to get on the waiting list for HFT's like these.

Well if they do their website is lying. CompCams and Summit or only showing Magnum 280H-10's in stock for 460 Ford in the CompCams line. Same every where else.

https://www.compcams.com/products/comp-camshafts/ford-2_429-460-c-i-8-cylinder-1968-1995.html?product_list_order=quantity_and_stock_status

^Chick the Cam to check status.

Not even a full page. Comp 280's and Kits of them, a few Howards to order and Summit and Melling RV stuff.

https://www.summitracing.com/search/make/ford/engine-family/ford-big-block-385-series?N=filter-options%3Ain-stock_vendor-in-stock&SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&cm_mmc=ppc-google-_-search-_-general-terms-_-keyword&gclid=CjwKCAiA2L-dBhACEiwAu8Q9YJR1thMY2DrNrGMz6qcu0GVyUqtciGMwnSBwiajwjha1CgEVyY7aDhoCc6UQAvD_BwE&keyword=460%20cams&page=1

Maybe next year they will update their websites and they will magically appear and the price gouging for some of the in stock parts will stop.

Replacement Camshaft Empty Replacement Camshaft - Thanks

Post  RedDragonCobra January 3rd 2023, 6:12 am

Many thanks guys for your information. Can someone please explain what 'LSA" means in your spec info ie 108/110/112 LSA.
Also the FRPP spec sheet states a rocker ratio as 1.60 when in reality the actual rockers are stamped SVO 1.73! So until I can get to measure the cam (in a shop) I can't confirm that the lift information stated as 0.588" inlet/0.614" exhaust is correct.
As you state there appears to be not much out there but I'll now start contacting places.

That's is the correct info for the SVO C460 cam. You can measure the with and height of your cam lobes and multiply by 1.73 to double check.

The LSA is ground into the cam. It is the spread between the intake and exhaust lobes.

Wider LSA I/E 112 vs 108 would promote a smoother idle and more vacuum.

Here are the Ford SVO cam spec.'s

https://www.ragtop50.com/data/85.pdf

Here is an article, I'm to lazy to type all the other info about LSA.

https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/camshaft-shootout-lobe-separation-angle-tested-explained/

I wish you well finding a cam now.

Thanks for this further info. My guess now is that LSA = Lobe Separation Angle. I've gone for a Lunati Cam that I've had to buy from JEGS as Lunati's system won't allow non US addressees register so can't buy stuff direct, (I'm in the UK) a bummer!
