Engine Mounts Empty Engine Mounts

Post  wickettoby1 July 1st 2018, 9:34 pm

I need to make some custom engine mounts for my 545 project. Does anyone care to share their custom engine mount pictures or ideas. If their rubber, poly, or solid I don’t discriminate.

Motor plates, they allow you to place it anywhere and give lots of header room

Thanks for the words of wisdom Mike but it doesn't really answer the question that I asked.

Can't help with drawings and dimensions, but I used a prefabbed kit from Tinman and modified it to put the 545 in my '32.

All I can offer are the dimensions of the bolt pattern in the block sides.

I looked at a LOT of mounts and went with the Tinman mounts for a couple reasons. I wanted the bushings (pivot points) as close to the frame rail as I could for clearance and reduce the rotation from torque. I wasn't fond of the Speedway bracket off the rail as it didn't look strong enough. Probably just me and a case of overkill, but what I would have saved with the Speedway mount I would have more than spent modifying brackets and headers.

I like the design of the Tinman mounts they just won't work for my particular application.

What is your particular application? Post up details and maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

It's a 1964 Galaxie with a TKO behind it and before anyone says "just buy the Crites mounts" I already have the Crites mounts and dont really care for them.

There are a lot of Crites products that are junk and don't fit very well, or at all.

When I bought my Crites mounts i waited several weeks to get them even though every time I called they said "their shipping today". Then when I did finally receive them they sent 2 right side mounts. I called and told them that id be there in the morning (after a 3 hr drive) and that id like to have a conversation with the owner. When i arrived the owner wasn't there and when I gave them my extra right side mount to exchange for a left they came back with another right side mount. Apparently the left and right mount bins were both filled with right side mounts. I had to wait while they made me a left side mount. After that i said id never buy another product from them. I'll get off of my soapbox now Wink

I'll probably end up going with a solid mount because the 545 that I'm putting together is gonna make quite a bit of hp and torque for a street car.

The '64 Galaxie has a perch on each side that sits on the crossmember under the engine. The perch has a hole in it for a threaded stud to go through then a nut and washer go on the bottom side.

I'll take a pic and post it later today.

Okay. Knowing that the factory mounts bolt to the cross-member, that was a similar deal on a 460 I setup for one of my nephews who had a '70's Ford Pickup. On that, I used the mount that Rod & Custom Motorsports has that they offer with their MII suspension Kits. It's available separately with many engines mounts, including the 460. It's a stanchion type, but instead of welding it directly to the cross- member, I welded it to some plate and boted that to the cross-member so it would also be removable. Worked really good and took a beating at the track. I found this similar setup on the web and as you can see they welded it to the cross-member.
