1995 429 into a 1984 truck

I just bought a 1984 f800 with no engine in it. Engine had a hole in the block so the "Mechanic" pulled the engine and they took it to the scrap yard. They didn't even strip the engine before taking it. So, all the accessory brackets, intake, flywheel, all of it went to scrap. That the bad news. Good news is , I got the truck for almost nothing, and it a 60ft bucket truck.

I found a truck locally that has a complete engine and its still in the truck and runs great. Problem is the truck is a 1995 with throttle body and who knows what else. My question is can I make this 1995 429 work in a 1984 truck ? If I do away with the intake and install a carbureted intake, will that work? How much different is a 1995 429 VS a 1984. I know the 95 has a computer and I don't think the 84 does-I'm assuming that's for the throttle body mostly. Tell me some good news.

OR, could I just drop a 460 in it and be done-there are plenty of those around.

I believe the injected heads have the intake port in a different location - they are not compatible with a carb intake. I don't know if there's an aftermarket intake, I've not seen one yet.

Yes, I just read that, the EFI heads are different then carb heads.

None of the Lima engines were ever throttle body injected that I've ever seen. The fuel injected Lima engine uses the same heads as were used on the EFI 460 engines. The short block is the same as far as I know between the carbureted and EFI versions of the Lima engine. The Lima engine is quite a bit different than a 460 in that it has a front engine dress that's much different to go along with the different balancer etc which accommodates the larger truck engine crank snout.

2) Which truck model is the 1995 and which trans does it have?

This is not necessarily a straightforward swap.

The 84 has the 5sp/2sp and the 95 is a F800 also with the EFI engine with a Allison.-2 different animals

When you remove the engine from the 1995 truck, the crankshaft will have an adapter on the rear flange that needs to be removed.  It can be easily and lightly pried off.

Buy and install the rollerized pilot bearing for the Clark 5-speed and fit it to the crank flange. You should then be able to install the 1995 long block into the 1984 truck.   I can’t speak for the fuel injection and you may need to make some changes there, maybe convert to carb etc.

I found an 1988 f800 fully intact and runs for $300-cost anther $400 to have it towed here- total of $700 invested in it.  It's a VERY heavy duty f800 with air brakes and a spring pack from hell in the back. It's a carb engine just like I needed. It's got a dump flatbed on it. I figure I can pull the engine and scrap the rest for more then I have in it.  I put the truck on craigslist (less engine), maybe someone will need it for parts-there is no title for it.  I'm getting it ready for the engine pull this weekend.  Trying to find someone with a wrecker to do the swap.
