Best 4-Bolt caps/DOVE-A 2 Bolt

Just looking for some opinions on aftermarket four bolt caps for the center three mains of a DOVE-A. Strength, ease of install, quality of included hardware, and anything else pertinent.

I have used the Milodon main caps on one of my blocks, and I think they do quite well for the DOVE-A block.

Check out Bluethunder, pretty beefy caps, and they offer a front 4 bolt cap too.

Last I heard Blue Thunder is not making any of those 4 bolt caps any more.. unless they decided to go and do some more.....

Rick sence they have no moving parts I think they would be ok, you have to have the block machined for them and line honed anyways I think they will work fine.....

Program makes some nice stuff, also Blake(idt-572) was talking about making some.

Whats the cost for the machine work for that 4 bolt conversion ?

Around here it's about the same as it cost to line bore and hone.

I have seen some of these on a friends motor and they are nice caps. He got them off e-bay for $70. I was surprised at how nice a cap they were, they look as good as milodons. Pro-gram has nice caps too at reasonable prices.

I have a set of the Cat caps on my 557, the caps look great. The only problem I had with them is the material is ......... Well I guess the best way to describe it is tough and chewy. Hard as hell to hone to final size. They have been on my engine since I took out the rubber Eagle crank and went with the Scat 4340 4.5 inch.

It has been on the dyno several times , first when it was built and then again dynoing the prototype heads and intake. Plus we changed cams during that thrash also . Can't remember how many pulls we made (Charlie or Lem might remember ) But it was a bunch.

Oil pressure is still rock solid right where it was when it was first fired. I will have pictures to share here soon as the engine is sold, and will be freshened here in the near future in my shop.

The only difference between putting on the Cat caps and the Blue Thunder is the surface grinding of the spacers under the end of the cap at the outer splayed bolt. The Cat cap is flat across the bottom out past the register step.

I bought a NEW set of Cat caps from a guy the other day Blake. Just in case a Friend may need some one day. Still in box
