pushrods
i need to change out the push rods on my new engine before i try to run it.combo is kaase boss 429 heads, comp roller specd from kaase, and manley 221443 springs.lift is .740 ,.024 lash hot.max rpm maybe 7000-7200 max,so what pushrod should i look for?i think a 7/16 will fit the block and heads, maybe some minor clearances.so knowing that what would the brand, wall thickness, dia would the experts here suggest.i used a 3/8 .080 wall before in a similar engine but that had less cam and springs.

Re: pushrods
Dan it depends on length. 7/16ths is good as they get longer . I like a thicker wall 3/8ths.

Re: pushrods
That spring is 610# @ .700, the Isky spring I run in mine is 590# @ .700, My cam was .718 total and I just ran the 3/8 pushrods from Kaase (they look like they were made by Trend), but they have Kaase's name on them. 5000 street miles, no pushrod problems (broken roller lifter though). On an A460 block I had to notch the block to clear the exhaust pushrod on number 4 with a 3/8 pushrod.
A more important question would be what size oil hole to run in the pushrods?
Cheers.

Re: pushrods
You get far more strength from cross section than wall thickness. I would run at least a 7/16 x .09 wall with that combination if it's doable.

It's not important at all. Here is what matters I.M.O.
1] How much oil is allowed to enter the lifter gallery from the priority gallery.
2] """""""""""""" Enters the edge orifice of the of the lifter.
3] """""""""""''''' That enters the lifer is allowed to get to get to the pushrod seat/cup.
A Pushrod can't flow more than it can get.
Re: pushrods
Lem is correct. When I wrote that I was only thinking about the Crower lifters, installed as Crower tells you to install them (.080 edge orifice, and .080 all the way to the pushrod seat). Install the Crower's with the oil hole away from the lifter oil galley, or run a lifter from a different manufacturer and you don't need to use the pushrod as an oil restrictor.

pushrods
thanks for all the input on this.i bought some 7/16 x .120 wall just to test the fit,and they will fit the heads no problem.but these .120 wall feel like bricks,so could i use a thinner wall with the noted springs in first post?and what wall would that be?.intake is 8.500 long and exh is 10.200 long.

Re: pushrods
Unless it is a high RPM, all out race engine, with normal 7,000 RPM and under engines, the pushrod I use is 3/8" x .080" wall. I will step-up to 3/8" x .165" wall if the spring tension gets above 750 pounds force and the camshaft flanks get somewhat aggressive and 7/16" x .165" wall on the exhaust side if the engine is to use nitrous.
Higher RPM and heavy valve trains or extremely aggressive camshafts may need more.
I can literally walk to Trend from here so, getting anything they make is no issue at all; (I wish they still made 3/8" x .135" wall).
