windage tray Empty windage tray

Post  stanger68 June 22nd 2016, 1:00 am

Guys I'm just about ready to start ordering some parts for a 557 build. Getting down to the nitty gritty details. For chassis clearance reasons I'm stuck with a front sump 8 qt canton pan. Canton main girdle. I did contact them for advice on whether or not their windage tray would clear a 4.5" crank. The guy just told me I'd have to order one and find out. Trim as needed. Looking at the mesh design I'm not sure you'd be able to cut it without sacrificing some strength. Any other options?

Scat 4.5" crank
15-750 canton pan
15-751 pick up
21-066 canton girdle

2 option for the w.tray so far are
32225 Milodon
20-936 Canton

I'm using the Milodon tray. Yes its cut up a bit where I spent a few hours to get it right. I dont know how you could use a girdle with that setup.
Sell the girdle?
My setup is on an A460 block. The double ended main stud kit with nuts to raise or lower the tray to clear is easy to set up. You need to trim the tray to clear the oil pickup mounts.

I,m pretty sure the girdle will clear. Two reputable sources recommended using the Canton for that very reason. They come clearance for a 4.5" stroke. I just can't seem to get any definitive answers on the tray. It's only 10-15 hp but a few here and a few there adds up. Unless someone can tell me for sure they have done it, I'm not going to waste my money. I just don't see how it's going to fit under a low profile oil pan with a baffle.

Someone help !!!

Rear sump.
I'm using the Canton fox pan with the center 5" drop. A tray might be more important than a scrapper or a screen in the pan. I'm not using it for power but for keeping the oil from being blown out of the sump on shutdown.
Its not good to have 0 psi when your braking.

I am using the Canton bolt-on pickup and windage screen with a 4.50" stroke, front sump. Clears fine. My buddy cut the sump off a stock pan, welded an. approx. 2" extension to make the sump 10" deep. Ran that setup for years

I have a real nice pan made for us that is about $650-700 depending on some factors that I can make fit however you need.  Has a badass baffle design inside. It'll be the last pan you ever buy.
