X-pipe diameter

Building exhaust on the Fox.

Ready all the stickies and searched the forums and did find the answer BUT....

Hate to build a 2.5 X pipe for a mild 460 and have to do it all over again for a 3". 460, DOVE-C Ported, 588/588 - 112 sep, Fuel Injected, Ported O sonic, I beams, blah blah, basic stuff. 400ish to the rear wheels.

Motor spec stickies call for a 2.5

Muffler back is 3" already. Switching from an oversized 3.5 X pipe and not wanting to have to redo the piping for a third time. Not sure the ~.25 diameter difference is a deal breaker between the 2.5-3 diameter. Shorty headers will be feeding the pipe and street only.

More than likely this motor will be redone/replaced due to specs being so poor.

For just about any stock to mild 460 build I don't think you can go wrong with the 3" X-pipe. Remember that once you split the 3" to make the X-pipe section you are reducing the area in the merge section to begin with. The 2.5" with the X is going to be too small in my opinion. I am hoping that's a typo I quoted above as all the rest of your post refers to 2.5" .

My old configuration with the long tubes had a TRUE 3.5 X pipe not a pipe notched X.

Switching to shorty headers and ditching 3.5 X Pipe. Dyno tuner said exhaust was to large and needed reduction.

based on the "stickies" on the engine build section, my HP lvl should have 2.5 exhaust to 3" mufflers.

I am just trying to avoid building the x pipe twice if I change motors.

The bigger the exhaust pipes the better
