What is the weight difference in the SCAT superlight forged crank vs a SCAT standard forged crank

No body knows..... it's a 400$ price difference

Yep I just find it odd my self and scat won't even talk about the lightweight stuff for the bbf

Summit has them for about $240 more, with free shipping. I would not pay that much more either for a few pounds less.

A couple years back I inquired about the lighter crank and was told it was a weaker piece in a max effort deal

I would say that if you're building a large displacement engine that really crankshaft mass isn't a huge factor. The displacement is high relative to the mass and inertia of the crankshaft weather you deliberately try to lighten it or not. The money is probably best spent elsewhere where it can do more good when it comes to performance.

Scat and Lunati Std weight 4.5 stroker, are they the same import forgings, they both look ok but the lunati is about $300 cheaper. From what I have read balancing could be an issue. If I have to spend a lot to balance due to adding heavy metal would I be better off to spend extra and get a Callies Magnum USA made crank, $1800 but maybe no issues with balancing???? Any thought's or first hand experience would be appreciated. Also looking at Callies Compstar rods which look to be real nice for $600.

We had to take over 3lbs out of my SCAT billet crank.... sometimes it isn't the heavy Mallory in.

Since you have used both, do you like one better than the other and why? Also, do you what size the pilot hole is at the back of the crank? I am running a stick so the hole needs to be about 1.85 and .500 deep.

X2 The Lunati crank has a lot nicer, cleaner finish than the Scat. I balanced one to 2260 gram bob weight no problem. But that's a very light bob.

Correction, I was comparing the Lightweight to the Ultra Lightweight. Sorry about that.

The Lunati looks a better piece. Nicer finish. Machining looked and measured better.
No problem balancing. I can't remember the bob weight but it's a 4.5" Diamond flat top and a Callies I beam steel rod.

I think I will be going with a lunati crank it looks to be much better.

I've sold several of the Lunati crankshafts. Nobody has had to add any wt. to them.

The Lunati in my engine was very nice and balanced without issue. Now if they would make a 4.750 stroke version I would be all over it.

Sounds like a nice crank for the money. I can hardly wait to get it. I have been looking at bearing's and am considering Clevite "V" series, they offer .001 or .002 extra clearance and no groove. I don't know what clearance the std H or V series bearings would have as compared to a stock replacement bearing. I know most stock replacement bearings will yield about .001 to .0015 clearance, I am shooting for .003 to .0032. Can anyone tell me should I start with a .001 extra clearance bearing or .002 when using the H or V series bearings???
