Im fixin to do some upgrades to my 552 and wondering about porting my aluminum scj heads is there any particular parts of each port/bowl that need more work than others or is it just a matter of smoothing the rough castings ive previously gasket matched em on the intake to a 1231 and blended that back but so far thats all

How wild do you want to get? For the cost and effort, its cheaper to buy new heads. The SCJ has a decent valve diameter, but the design to work with "stock" intake and exhaust kill the potential.. weld the floor up about 1/2" and cut the roof out the port to the valve cover rail. Exhaust side same thing. Weld the water leaks shut, viola, you have an A460 head.

Personally, that is not enough exhaust lobe, (or to much intake lobe depending upon how you wish to look at it), in comparison to each other lobe, for that head.

Simply, bowl porting that head and back-cutting the intake valve should make that amount of power rather easily with a 552.

Charlie Evans did his 'super bowl' port on my SCJ heads and they went for a touch over 370 cfm . So some basic bowl work should get you where you want to go. If you don't hit the number with that cam, you should get there with a bit more cowbell.
