I keep breaking 208f transfer cases off. any idea's. 95 ford ranger frame and body. 79 axles and suspension. front and mid plate. rubber trans mount. NO roll cage so frame flexes a lot.  Drive shafts are not to long. pretty much when it leaves the ground it breaks off the tcase when it lands. Top broken case was from 4th of july and the second case(blue) broke aug.30th

Since you are running a front and mid plate I would think you need a solid transfer case mount.

Drive shaft length and travel double and triple checked...Yes i am running low range... Now to the trans mount, this i y i explained that there was no cage. if i put a solid mount on the trans and the frame twists because there is NO cage in the truck i figure that the bellhousing will break...  ? truck is fast.. Also fun fact.. this truck has been racing for 3 full years .. never broke the first 2 years...

Check the CV joint twice. Check with full compression and droop then rotate a quarter turn and check again. Has pinion angles changed?

Something has changed if it went two years and never broke.

after the first t case broke we shortened the front shaft 1 inch... figured that was the problem ...
Then it broke the second one 7 day's of racing later with no problems in the middle....

Same hook? Tires or launch RPM different(motor)? What caused the t-case to become the u-joint??? Solid case upgrad req'd...when in relation to cahanging to the solid trans mount did you start breaking the t-cases..flex in the body anpossibly crossembers with a plated motor and trans, maybe the give of the mount was the stress reliever?...DNK mostly a car guy.

with the motor/mid plates, leave the trans rubber mounted! Breaking the snout off the ford 208 is fairly common with it's longer front output than the chevy 208. You need to fab up a brace to prevent the lateral (front to rear) oscillations when the chassis, suspension, and driveline all move around. The mount should be something similar to the 205's side mount, and it should live longer.

besides bracing the front output so it doesn't move front/rear and break like that, no...

What does the planetary look like after this happens?   The 208 is notorious for grenading planetaries when abused by lots of torque.

What type of situation has the truck been in when the cases broke? Was it during launch? while catching air? Upon landing? just while under full throttle on a smooth surface? An answer to these may help figure out what type of force is breaking the case.

breaks under full acceleration when the truck lands back on the ground when it does get a little air from a rough mud pit....

both time was the same situation. many other times it has came off the ground and not broke.

Do the drive shafts still have the rubber screw on seal to protect the shaft splines? If it does try removing them to allow more freedom of travel when extending and compressing the driveshaft. Also make sure it has a lot of grease on it so its not sticking. We never had any luck running the 208 transfer cases in any mud truck(fast track racing) so we quit using them after breaking several and use either the 1345 or 1356 case if in need of the very low ratio but with high horsepower/torque we run the good old 205. the 205 may be heavy(but helps with weight distribution) but they always held up for me.

Lots of high power trucks running them but they're usually on the high side with all the low range parts removed
