ok what block? 11.7 or 12" deck height Empty ok what block? 11.7 or 12" deck height

Post  Rickyt630x August 1st 2014, 10:40 am

looking to update and change some things around in one of my cars, right now im running a 665 n/a deal and hurt somethings, while im rebuilding this one was thinking of putting the together another motor. bigger, looking at a set of b441A/C heads or a set of thor 2, and thinking about doing either a 11.7 or 12" deck block, pros and cons of each? would i be better of with just going with the 12" block?

also as far as the heads go would i have to widen the car of i did go with the b441 heads?

I'd depend on how big you make the engine. The 11.700" deal works good with ~ 5.00" stroke.

Run the combo you have with an 11.200" block.
If you decide to go with a 820" motor, you better do your homework with the maintenance that is needed. It may change your mind.

id love to have a mountain motor if it was well taken care of and not run into the ground. problem is some people want almost what they paid for new for the used stuff, i know its not cheap but still.

what's the biggest the 11.7 deck can handle, cubic inches wise, also whats a safe zone?

also could you get a 5.25 stroke in the 11.7 blocks or is 5" the safe zone,

and whats the limit on the 11.2 blocks?

If your going with a 5.25" stroke, an 11.700" block would be about right.
You could do a 12.000" block with that crank.
Did you talk to Carrol Carter?

11.2 or 12" are the popular combinations
11.2" will accept up to 5.25 or so stroke
you can go to 5.3 or 5.5 stroke in the 12" block just fine, if you don't like the piston maintenance of the 820" combo.

There is quite a spread $$ wise, between new Thor heads or used B441 Hemi heads, but it is worth it.

If you think $35,000 for a used complete Ford hemi is "NEW PRICE", better think again.
Call up Carroll Carter and prepare for "sticker shock" on new complete B441 Hemi heads!

thats the thing though, 35k is not a bad price at all. the price i was giving to buy the one i first looked at was 65k and it still needed to be gone through. not a problem but at that price i rather spend the extra and just have a fresh new motor built. im not scared or worried about the maintenance either so thats not a problem.

I had a 5" bore space 827" Hemi with the "C" hemi heads, 2.75" intake valves. They flowed 655cfm; I also I had a 565" Hemi with the "B" heads that flow 550cfm. I don't think an "A" head will come close to that, maybe 450cfm. An 820" engine with "A" heads will be a dog. There are guys running 720" hemis with "A" heads and I think that is still to much displacement for those heads.

The guy I bought my 827 from was shifting it at 8600 rpms.

If you want to build a big inch 4.9 bore space engine, you need the "B" head. I think Carol get 18K for the heads complete. I just sold my 565 "B" head hemi last week.
