What motors better for a buildup? Empty What motors better for a buildup?

Picked up 3-429's and a 460 out of a 76 Lincoln last night, wondering which one will be best for a build 5-700 ish
1-c9veb block with c9vea heads

2- diveAA's blocks with dove heads

Or, the 460 (did not feel like scraping the oil off it to read the numbers)

well im not sure if the C9VE are are as good as the DOVE blocks but if I was to pick it would be the D1VE just because of the taller deck and if it had the stock bore 4.360 that would be a pulse but 750hp well I think all of them could handle it as so as they can pass a magnaflux or all the other ways to test for cracks but I would not go past the 850 mark with a stock block but that's just me there has been people that done 850+ all day

Put the early heads on the 460 and hope the exhaust seats don't recede...

Randy is saying that you run the D0VE heads and hope that the non hardened exhaust seats dont burn. Kind of a sunken valve problem.

I am going to take a wild guess and figure that you guys have no experiences about the use of heads with UN-hardened exhaust valve seats and the potential resultant issues with using unleaded gasoline.

I'd do like randy said as start with a 460 crank in any of the blocks and pick the best looking early heads. And like he's saying they will wear the exhaust seats. But as long as your not expecting to build a high mileage engine it's an issue but one that typically will take a while to surface.

Now to the goal...... 500 is not a super high goal at it can be achieved with a reasonable effort with the parts you have and a modest budget...... 700 is a whole lot more work and cost depending on your ability and is going to hard on pump unleaded gas with the heads you have.

The ones you have listed are typically all about equal. Unless you sonic test them for cylinder wall thickness. The earlier blocks do have a little shorter deck, but that's not a big deal.

I'd go with the c9.IMO the casting is a little better quality than the later.unless you have one of the few d1ve blocks with thick mains!

Just went thur the sunken valve thing they looked like a sink hole in fla so I had harden seats and bronze guilds and be done with it my heads were 71 DOOE-R that's why I spent the $ on them
