And I bet it's a "monitored by the computer" feature that will void the warranty with any use whatsoever... Clever move...

I bet Lem or Jon could clear up that question. It doesn't seem likely to me that they'd factory install a feature that'd void the warranty.

Last 2 sentences of the article said enough for me:

"Electronic line-lock for 2015 Mustang GT is intended for use only on racetracks. Racing your vehicle will void your warranty."

Gotta keep the insurance guys happy somehow...

I never thought of that but... A friend at work bought a Roush mustang and ran the shit of it to Las Vegas one weekend. Took it in and the tech downloaded the info off it and said he was glad to see someone drive it hard like that. So yes, they have the ability to monitor or he was B.S. me..

The black box in your car has more data stored about the car you drive than any 767 aircraft black box. It has every parameter from key turn to key turn, all nicely tucked away. Some things overwrite, but things like top speed, peak acceleration, lateral G peak etc, all store (for safety investigation). Ford was the company that let the cat out the bag on just how much consumer data it was storing in there and how they were getting it. Every trip to the dealer fills the sales books with every driving habit new car owners have.

Guess this means no more Hertz clone car stories... No more "only driven by a little old lady to Church on Sunday" stories...

I can't imagine why I would go out and buy one of these cars even if I had the $$$. If the back bumper falls off, it won't be covered by the warranty because I touched the line lock.

More BS.

Who would the common sense person be that makes a decision that some failure was due to "abuse" or not? The service writer? Will there be a print out given to the customer as to the data decoded whenever a warranty claim is made?

Twisted Evil

The down side, and up side, is every dealership is independent; it is with certain provisions that the dealership sells ford, dodge, chevy whatever.  So how buyers, and service customers are treated are a reflection of that dealerships owner/manager.

There are numerous cases of dealerships being absolute warranty jerks, using every excuse they could to void warranty coverage and repair.

There are fewer but still abundant stories of dealerships bending over backwards and eating known abuse vehicle warranties.

Trick is, get to know your dealer and service personnel before you through a fortune at them for your toy.  Figure out in advance if your on the list to get screwed or helped.   There are still lots of places out there that believe win on Sunday, sell on Monday, where they want a few good gear heads in cars with their stickers on it, to promote product and sales coverage.   There are also numerous short sited places that simply want YOUR dollar and future business be damned.

we cover more shit than we should. Get a solid case of customer neglect or fault, tell them Ford wont cover it, they bitch to Ford....... gets covered anyways.

So its easier to just cover it from the git go and get paid without all the bullshit.

Probably why new vehicles cost five times more than they should.......

I guess I don't get it. My bad.
Why should a multi-thousand dollar item's warranty be subject to someone's whim at all?? Either Ford warranties the thing, or they don't. I wouldn't buy a car like that to look at sitting in the driveway, so I guess I'd be guilty of racing if I used the line lock, it probably wouldn't matter where, nor how much.
In this case, Ford is plain about it - a line lock is used for racing purposes, and racing voids the warranty. You can bet your butt that it is a computer monitored item.
That, to me, is just another reason to never buy anything like that "new"...
I'd rather take that, what, $50K?, $60K?, $70K?, and put it into an older vehicle that I don't need/want to have a warranty on - and have one hell of a lot more fun...
I can possibly cobble up a line lock for a hundred bucks...

You guys are all crazy. Line Locs are used for doing burnouts, not racing. Maybe one of you have but I have never raced with my line loc on.  Shocked  Therefore the warranty should stay in tact... technically.  Very Happy
