Question about setting valves Empty Question about setting valves

Post  Bigred69 December 15th 2013, 5:24 pm

Ok, I sat down yesterday to set the valves on my 429 . The way I did it was to remove the distributor cap and turn the crank until I reached a cylinder that was suppose to hit TDC. I then adjusted those two valves. Then I went around the cap until I got them all done. But, I ran into a couple that when I adjusted to zero lash and tried to go 3/4 turn more, it seemed like the valve got pretty tight so I stopped . Is this a common thing? I adjusted each cylinder until the push rod wouldn't turn by twisting , then waited a minute , then tightened 3/4 turn. Did I do this the correct way? Thanks

Ok, I have read that thread and still have questions. I have been told that I have thunder jet rail type rocker assemblies. And what I was told is that once I bring to TDC for that cylinder, to tighten the nut to a certain torque value, and that's it. For some reason I thought these were adjustable rockers. So 25 ft lbs with the lifters on the base circle of the cam lobe for that cylinder and that's it?
