NEW BBF BILLET HEADS! Empty NEW BBF BILLET HEADS!

Post  dtimmer December 7th 2013, 2:19 pm

Here is a sneak peak at our new bbf billet head. These have the standard head bolt pattern (18 bolt), and use standard lifter locations. The use our custom individual rockers stands (multiple bolts per stand) with all on center rockers (Jesel or T&D). The are available in solid form (no water) or with water jackets.

They will be on display at PRI. Booth 6128

I did not say Craig made it. I was wondering if Craig is the end user.

Can you elaborate more, like suggested CI, bore size, flow, etc.?

Always been curious... How do you get water passages in a billet head? Mill the passages from the bottoms and ends then plug the ends?

Not really. Each head is tailored to the customers wants/needs. In this case the head is designed for big bore (4.650+) and big inches (700+).

The beautiful thing about billet is you can change anything you want with a simple drawing change. You want a 4.500 bore, sure why not. We have many port designs for many different applications. N/A, nitrous, turbo, ect. The basic design stays the same and finishing touches are added to fit the customers application.

I can tell you this, with similar port designes on a 5.0 borespace "BBC" @ 650" it made 1530hp

Water passages are gun drilled from the ends, the deck, and other locations to pull heat out where it needs it, the ends of the holes are plugged. They are setup for reverse flow and works very efficiently.

Looks a lot like an E head. Except of course for the bolt pattern. How far off an E head is it in port shapes and configuration?

Nice looking head. I'm not seeing any provision for oil return or drainback. Why?

There is. One on each end, in the corner above the head bolt. They are external drain backs.

I'm just guessing here, but I assume the incline angles are somewhere between 8* and 12*. Looks like the cant angle is maybe 4.5*-5.0* on the intakes and 3.0*-3.5* on the exhausts.?? What size valves?

I see that you haven't machined the holes for the innermost 4 head bolts/studs yet. To the best of my knowledge they are angled towards the intake manifold 7.5* off of perpendicular to the deck. I have had to correct some from other manufacturers. They went 7.5* the wrong way when the head was upside down.

Do you know how much offset is required in the intake lifters yet?

Again, very nice head.Cool

Yea your pretty close on the valve angles. Id have to pull up the drawing to figure out for sure. We have been busy gettingbready for the show, i cant remember exactly on the valve size. But i believe it is 2.520 on the intake. I'll have more info together at the show if you stop by.

I havent gotten a chance to machine the inners yet. My fixture was in the way on my 5 axis to drill them, gotta make a new one. I,ve had to fix a few of those also Wink

Thanks for the compliments guys, id really like to get some more of these out there to see what they are capable of. After craig makes some passes with them maybe more will be interested. I've always been a BBF fan, so im pushing to make more!

As for the lifter offset: .150 on intake and exhaust.

We have another version that uses relocated lifters to optimize the pushrod geometry, but this design turned out better than expected. Far better than the thors or C head.
