Cam bearing question

I will be assembling the motor this week, and got to wondering if a Timken roller bearing deal is necessary/beneficial/available for the bbf. I am referring to one that would go between the end of the cam and the retaining cover.

Also, if a p/n or link could be provided that would be awesome.

A bronze retainer plate works good....it's a bolt on deal no machining required.

I'm with Lem on this one. The bearing adapted to the camshaft gear looks nice and may offer some advantage although the bronze retainer plate is nice as well and one less item to concern yourself with.

No bearing for me,rebuilt a couple motors for guy's over the years w/them and picked too many rollers out of the pan. I will stick w/bronze like Lem said.

Well, I just tried to call Lem to see about getting the bronze retainer and a Kasse rear sump pump, but it seems he is out screwing off this morning. Shesh, u would think he owned the place or something.. LOL

Just ask for parts,they will know what you need.

There are no Kaase pumps right now....maybe in a few weeks.

Lem did Jon ever finalize the deal he was working on the castings for his pumps. I know when I built the 552 I was going to buy one of his pumps and his parts guy told me they was working on a deal to get the castings made and was waiting to get it finalized.

Latest from them is they will be ready in a couple weeks and the new casting is aluminum, shaving 3lbs from the old casting.

Do you guys use anything (like blue locktite) to keep the cam retainer plate bolts from coming loose? The one on my block just has 2 bolts with no lock washers. Also, what do you torque them to?

On all the engines I have built all I have done is tighten them down good and have never had one come a loose on me.

A little blue is ok.

I use the PURPLE called "Liquid Lock Washer" on just about every bolt which doesn't get something stronger.

Alan,i've never used a torque wrench on them.Just get them good and tight ,your a smart guy,so just use your common sense and don't go crazy w/anything w/long handle.
