solid lifter cam Empty oil restriction

Solid flat tappet cam
Break it in correctly and it should last a long Time. I see no reason for restrictors.

Solid roller cam
Are you running a stock block or aftermarket?

I have read some guys do just one side of bushed lifter bores.

Some just swap and do nothing.

After market you almost are required to. I am no expert.

My 429SCJ came from the factory with a solid lifter cam and the block was the same with the Hyd. cam as with the solid cam, no changes. If it was good enough for Ford It's good enough for me.

Restricted pushrods is the only way you should even think of restricting oil to the upper valve train.
You want full pressure at the lifter.

A cheap method we used to use is just stick a pipe cleaner in the pushrod, back in the old school days before restricted pushrods were available. Worked well. Unless its a roller cam I would not restrict anything. Just my two cents

Not bushing or controlling oil because of the cam, its done because of the increased RPM of the engine and the amount of oil that ends up in the valve cover.

Stock block uses the same oiling system as the 351C where the mains are oiled off the passenger side lifter galley. In order to feed more oil to the mains, (increased bearing clearance for greater RPM protection) the use of high volume pumps. To prevent all that oil from simply going up into the valve cover, bush the lifter bores, to reduce oil feed to those lifters. Additionally cross over flow to the drivers side lifters is restricted in the galley. You cant simply use a galley restrictor on the passenger side, because you have to feed the mains.

Aftermarket blocks are cast with the 351W designed oil galleys, with a dedicated passage to feed the mains and rods. So you can use galley restrictors in the front of the engine to reduce feed to the lifter galleys, and still have 100% flow to the mains.

Why would you restrict a roller, and not a flat tappet mech.?

check your lifter design. most have a restrictor made in them to keep the oil where it should be.i had a set with nothing inside them at all, just a hole straight through. it was like having a roller lifter in backwards.Laughing
