I've gone through a couple of these now. 4R100 steel 6-pin, seems to be flat out overheating. After the last one, I opened up the oil holes around the planet hub and cup plug in the output shaft. Seems the same. This was in a truck pull situation 7500rpm, 2nd gear, low range. Has anyone else had to deal with this issue, or am I just missing something obvious? I may try to get more oil back there, but I don't think I want to restrict any to other parts.

The check ball and spring didn't seem seized, but I removed them anyway, I'll pull it apart at the end of season and inspect. If it lasts that long! Shocked

I never said it wasn't apart, how would I replace the planet otherwise? As far as the coolers are concerned, I didn't verify an amount/time deal, but did check for blockage and running flow. I am confident the cooler and lines are sufficient and free of restrictions. And if not, I'll know at the end of the year, when I take it apart. Thanks for the input, it was helpful.

There were no other wear signs/issues other than this part. Even the planet front that centers in the fwd ring/hub was free of wear, just the pinions and axles.
