Kaase oil pump Empty Kaase oil pump

Post  hienergy557 January 19th 2013, 8:07 pm

I'm looking at changing oil pans. I currently have a Kaase pump and it looks to be a front pump style.
The pan I want to change to is a rear pick up.
It looks like the pick up would attach to the side of the pump, not the top cover.
So my question is, if the top cover for the rear pick up is availiable separately?
Cheers Colin

I have never see parts available separate. Could you just fab a pick up to ft the pump you have?

The pick up isn't the problem, the top cap on the pump is diffrent. That's the part I need.

You saying you missing the cover on the pump?

You may just want to get the rear sump pump and sell your front one. If I remember correctly the rear sump ones attach the pickup to the main housing not the cover.

I believe the pumps are totally different. Not going to be able to just switch the cover.

The front pump has two inlets...one is blocked off...just switch the block off plates and use the rear style inlet.

The pumps have the same housings.......the ones with a front sump end cap have a block off plate over the rear style inlet.

Don't drop one...you may have a sore toe.

I believe I can machine a 12mm plate so that it still use's the dual inlet. Which will decrease the height of the pump, compared to pump with the front sump top plate.
I was just asking if such a plate was availiable.
I will post a picture when I'm done.

So, the new pan will not like the ht. of the front sump pump?

Correct. The pan is not as high at the front.

I hear you now.....that ft. sump pump is longer than a week in jail and I'm not sure w.t.f. it was ever make , being that a nice job can be done of rolling the pickup from a rear pump into a front sump application.

Rolling the pick up tube from the front sump cover to the rear increases the height even more. I'm trying to gain as much height as possible.

Even with the correct cover for a rear sump pump, if the pan is not deeper in the front, the cover on the pump needs to be machined thinner in order to get enough oil pan clearance.

Oh I see, your saying that side inlet should have been used exclusively.
I agree.

I wonder how deep the pump pocket is.

I used a frt sump Kaase pump and made the plate switch to the rear. Just had to make a little drop down 3/8" deep in the pan below the pump.
