I am building a new engine for my 7300lbs 2wd f150 with a t-19 and a np205 transfer case. I have a gm 14 bolt rear with 4.10 ratio. I am running 31x15.50.15 ag tires with the tread cut to half its original height.

With what i gathered from this season i want around 24-26 mph for wheel speed. That being said i need a setup that will pull in the range of 6500-7200 rpms. I understand that i have to becareful with piston speeds so correct me if i wrong but i would want a under a 514 cubic inch engine.

My question is what combo will make around 700-750hp and live for a 15-20 pull season at 6500-7200 rpms. I already have a trick flow 4150 intake, 1050 dominator, scorpion roller rockers, msd rtr distributor along with a shortblock 466 minus pistons as i dropped a seat from my ported doves and eliminated the top of the number 1 piston and combustion chamber. I am open to changing out the current parts as needed

Cubic inches has little to do with it ... stroke length does along with piston ring weight for sealing.
A 4.300" stroke will be near 86 ft/sec average piston speed at 7,200 RPM which would be OK for a pulling engine with 1/16" thick compression rings.

I just picked up a set of almuinum scj heads. Will a 501 stroker and around 14.1 static compression give me good power from 6500-7100rpm with a solid roller cam?
Will the track heat 4150 intake work with the scj heads?

Not sure where you are pulling or what class, but around Indiana/Kentucky if you want to be competitive in 2wd/4wd you need to turn 8000 plus and be well north of the 800hp mark.

That said, if you want to stay under a 7500rpm build, then get some cubes. I know a lot of guys run a big bore short stroke setup, but it really depends on your rules. Can you give us more information?

Class is a 7500 max lbs
No ring gear larger than 11"
Suppose to be 480 max cubes but there are two 514 fords and a bunch of cheevys withe 500+ cubes.
Has to be a production block no limit on heads intake or carbs.
Naturally aspirated
Production frame
No bigger than a 1/2 ton pickup
Single and dual transfers are allowed.
Solid rear suspension
Front has to be able to move in one direction.
Class started last year.
Wheel speed on the points champ was 19-20 mph for this season.

If your rules are 480 max then stay with that. We run a 468 in a 2wd puller with 31" Cepeks, Clark 5 speed, and Eaton 2 ton at 6000 pounds.

I would look for a 429 industrial crank that can be redone to 460 stroke with 2.20 rods. Get some good flowing heads and a dominator intake. Quick fuel carb. 60 over pistons would give you a 472. Full roller and make sure your fuel system can support it. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Do it right and legal or don't do it at all is my vote.

I'd try to get the cubic inch limit raised if you already have a few 514's ford and 500+ chevy's. And with no limits on heads or intake then I'd build me a A-460 or C-460 headed motor. and put a 1250 or bigger carb on it and whale on that motor to 8200 Rpm's. With it running 8200 and you looking for a wheel speed of 29 to 32 with your 4.10 gears if you hold it down to 7300 then you'll have a wheel speed of 26.7 mph.

I know that i should play fair but if i dont cheat someone else will. We have our rule meeting in two weeks.

Im thinking of putting more gear in it. I know wheel speed is a big part.

If others use a big engine then go the protest route, (unless it is run by a bunch of yokes and there is none), and get rid of 'em.
Competition should be friendly but, not at the expense of cheaters becoming the norm.

Don't follow the leader when they cheat, be the leader legally.

Can i make a 472 that will spin and make power at the 750 hp level. I am wanting to beat them with a screaming 466 and show them that bigger isnt always better. But at the same time i dont want to spend 3-4 times as much as they are.

With good flowing top end, good bottom end (may be custom pistons), supporting fuel system, and a double disk clutch you can spin it and be in the ball park of HP on a little engine. Like I said we run a 468. I don't leave the line until 6400-6500 and usually hit 7800 somewhere during the run.

Maybe it is just me but if I win I want to know that I did it legal. As the other stated either get the rules changed or get the other protested. Good Luck.

Back When I first started pulling, this was my combo 4.45 bore x 3.85 stroke 479ci. I had a set of c8ve heads that had been ported polished and bigger valves in it. I run a custom ground roller cam, I can get the specs, but they are not in front of me. I had a set of JE dome pistons, 15.5:1 compression, eagle h-beam rods, tunnel ram w/ 2 carbs (Predators at the time on alky), and a factory cast crank, all this was in a 2-bolt block. It used to turn 72-7400rpm, but I could also turn it 8200 if I wanted to. It made just under 750hp., but I believe that if I would have went to dominators, and made a few other changes I could have pushed the 800hp level. The thing about this engine, is that I did not have to work on it all season. I would check the valves after every night of pulling, change the oil a couple times a year, but mainly it was just go pulling.
I ran this engine for about 10-11 years. As the other guys would build more power, I just would turn mine a little harder. It got to where I could run it around 82-8500rpm and keep up with the 520-530 ci engines that guys were building in the club. IF I were you, I would do like has been stated build something legal and whoop 'em with it. It was a whole lot more fun knowing that they had 40-50 cubes on me, but I was right there with them or ahead of them. I have had some of my competition tell me" IF you are going to beat me, you are going to have to cheat to do it!" Well guess what, when you do it and your legal, it burns their butts.

I have an eagel 3.85 stroke crank and eagle h-beam rods and a half filled 4.420 block with a 4 bolt conversion. What pistons should i use and what compression with my scj heads. I know i will need a custom roller cam and lifters along with a new stud girdle since the jomar one i ran was for stock heads. i will invest in the 4500 trickflow or victor intake and sell my current 4150 trickflow track heat intake along with the girdles and replace with the correct components. I am interested in hearing what setups i can run. I want something that i can freshen at the end of the season. The current block is at 10.319 what should i have it cut to? Will the crank handle that high of rpms?

Does anyone know where i can get the l19 bolts to upgrade my current rods. I understand that i may need the rods resized when they are installed.

My pulling motor was a 468ci, stock D9 block with some oiling mods. 2 bolt caps with a canton girdle, 429 truck crank (steel) that was offset ground to 3.85, balanced and nitrided, Oliver steel billet rods, Diamond custom forged pistons for 16:1 compression, D0OE-R heads flowing in the 412cfm area, TFS Mafia intake, .8 lift roller cam, scorpion roller rockers with a girdle and titanium intake valves with titanium locks and keepers. dyno'd at 800hp with a wet sump system before converting it to a dry sump with a vac pump. It would turn 8000-8200 with the 35" tires on it at 28-30mph wheel speed and hit the chip at 8600 with the 31" bar tires on it.
This motor ran 4 seasons with one freshening after 2 seasons, then I sold it and the guy freshened it and ran it during the 2012 season. Both my engine builder and his said there was more to be had from the motor.
This should give you and idea of what is possible out of a "little" 468. Just make sure you don't skimp on the rotating assembly and vavletrain components.
