C6 Problem... Please Help

84 c6 on a 460...
tci manual valve body (no trans break) and tci second gear servo.
rev. works perfect.
put it into first gear its actually in 2nd gear.
Put it into second gear the whole drive line locks up.
Put it into third gear and its in 2nd gear

I tested all this out by driveing it.
I pulled apart the valve body and its perfect shape ... pulled out the servo for second gear one seal has a 1/2in rip in it. called tci and they said all it will do is not engauge as hard.

Also the band is burn right up...

If your gears are in the wrong position then sounds like to me that your VB was not built right!
Second if you put it in second gear and it locks up then the band is staying apllied or not applieng enough and the reverse high clutches are welded together or burned up. If the band is burned up then Chances are good that the direct clutch pack is burned up too!

Here is what my rebuilder guys tells me.
your band was not releasing at all, had to use channel locks and 3 people to get the servo out. when it tried to go into 3rd the band should release but yours stays locked.

Was the direct clutch pack burned up too? It should have been ! What servo and lever did you say that you were running ?

Tci servo.

this trans failed after 2 years of racing.

Make sure that the servo moves in and out smoothly in the bore and use the stiffest spring. Red lined or kevalar lined band . On the direct clutch pack install all of the return springs. good luck

The TCI R-code servo is actually a Sonnax servo reboxed which are known to be too tight had to machine mine down to work properly in mine per Frank's instructions.

Sonnax has been told of this by several people myself included but still does not revise the part. I do not have access to a lathe so it cost $30 to have a machine shop cut the oring groove deeper. Not horrible by any means. What apply lever do you have? I have the r-code servo with an e-lever and 3 inch wide Kevlar band in mine and works flawlessly.

What does it do different from a stock one?

God it's been about 2 years but think it was the larger one. Whitefield would also know.

I would try a stock servo to see if that fixes your band apply problem .I had a c6 that wouldnt give me a hard enough 1-2 shift .Mr Frank Merkyl advises to cut the seal grove .007 .That makes the diameter .014 smaller and it is the bigger piston that gets cut .I found out my new in the package o rings from sonnax were .003 larger than the old o rings I had on my r servo .After cutting my servo and using different o rings my 1-2 shift is ok .i just dont know why sonnax doesnt do something about this . If I built a c6 for someone other than myself I dont think I would use a sonnax servo .I have built several c6s never a problem with 1-2 shifts until I bought that dam sonnax servo .Doug

When I built my C6 I used a Fairbanks R servo. I don't know the differences from the Sonnax servo, but mine works flawless.
