P51 Head Question Empty P51 Head Question

Post  Tore February 4th 2012, 3:32 pm

Here is something I was thinking about. At what point would you draw the line and say the P-51 heads are not efficient for this build and we move onto an A Head or Boss Head? Cubic Inch and compression size is what I was wondering about. I am talking a race engine not something with 600ci for the street.

Thanks Tore

In my opinion ... low to mid 500's in cubic inches and around 900 horsepower.
One can certainly use them on a larger engine and get a bit more power however, an "A" head is much more suited for it.

It'd depend on your HP goals....if you want 1,000-1,100 HP from a 600"ish engine moving beyond the P51 cyl. heads would be the option.
While a 598" P51 headed engine will make less HP per c.i.d. than a 555" version, the 598" will still make power.
