460 to 429 C6 swap
Im going from a 76 460 to a 73 429.
Some one told me that the converters are different and it wont bolt up properly.
Is this true.
The 460 is an original 76 truck engine and the 429 is out of a 73 police interceptor
The 429 is also coming with the PI C6 but I was planning on using my original trans since I know its still good.
If I have to I could use the car trans but then Im unsure if the lengths are the same.
Also the guy tells me the 429 has D3VE heads. To me this means its not a true 429PI right?
Any info would be great.
Thanks

D3VE's are not PI heads. As for the tranny, the only difference would be if the crank pilot is different sizes on the convertor. If it is ,you could swap convertors. But more than likely they are the same.Either the 429 has had some swapping of the heads or it's a 1971 or later smog engine.

The D means the 70's the D3 then means its a 73 cast head. the C8-C9-D0VE heads are what you should have on that engine, What there should be on a PI engine from 73 I'm not shure. But the D3VE are standard heads and no good for power I think. The engine are almost what you already has with your 460.
Check the # on the heads its just over the exhaust on the 2'nd cyl from the front on the pass, side head and opposite other side.
Good luck to you

D2OE-AB should be the casting for a PI of that Era. It wouldn't have C8 C9 or DOVE Castings, if its stock.
Slim chance it could have D3VE's too, the police packages became further diluted further into the 70's.

he said 73 engine . why would it have C8 / C9 or Dove heads . OR do you mean replace with the earlier heads.
D3 heads are used for performance

Yes I ment that if he would have more power he should have these heads on, I know they are 68-69-70 heads, but I can se that my post could be misunderstod
