will a car be faster with a taller tire compared to a shorter tire, if the gears are changed to put the motor in the same rpm range as the other...say your car cross the line at 6500 rpm with a 4.56 gear and 31 inch tires...and you change tires to a 28 inch tire and 3.73 gears,,<----just a compression . , with the same rpm at the line only difference is tire diameter

bigger tire can add drag and slow it down, on the other hand the smaller tire can spin easier and slow it down.

I'd go with the bigger tire option myself.

ok, i was thinking someone had said something about the roll out of a larger tire and the foot print ..etc..etc..my new car has 31x10.5w tires but with 3.73 gears ...i can put my 4.56 in or swap to a smaller tire or both, right now i have a small block that's pretty nasty, with the 4.56 gears and 31 tire will put me right where i want to be, i was unsure if that is the way to go or just leave the 3.73 in there and put some 26-28 inch tires on..thanks

Change the gear.

Mine has a 4.89 gear with 31x10.5Ws with a bbf in the 1/8 I cross the line at 6000 rpm at 7.12 et but this is a mild built engine .

if the car has the 3.73 gear in it now,i'd try it just to see what it would do but i'm real bad about changing stuff too much.lol

I guess the question would be can you hook on a 28 tall tire? As long as you are not running a large tire size that you don't need, I was always taught to go with the larger tire, then gear accordingly to maximize the contact patch. BUT--if you would hook fine on a 28X10.5 lets say, then no need to go with the larger, heavier tire.

reason it has 3.73 is it had a BBC in it before i got it was running 8.90's i putting a small block in it for now and i have a set of 4.56 already and the tires on car have 3 passes on them , thanks
