Camshaft Identity? Empty Camshaft Identity?

Post  1EFF100 19th January 2024, 09:44

I've had this cam kicking around on the shelf for 20+ years. Pulled it out of a high school class project-built 460 engine that had been sitting 20 years before I got it. Was rebuilt then stored in the teachers garage and never used.
The cam is a hydraulic flat tappet. Measuring the lift with a set of jive dial calipers, I come up with roughly .458/.493.
The only marking visible is "MAP" stamped on the back of the cam and a few paint markings.
I'm sure it's a small stock-type rebuilder cam but was curious if you guys may have an idea of what it is.
If we could ID it, I was thinking it could be a candidate for the Gas Mileage 460 build.

Thanks!

Now why would I do that, when I can be lazy and ask you guys? I would have to dig out one of my core engines, put it up on an engine stand and blah blah blah, way too much work. Come on, Dave, get real. lol. JUST KIDDING!  Camshaft Identity? 1f604

I may end up doing that. But in the meantime, maybe someone has an answer.

Ahh, the ubiquitous 204/214 cam that's been around since the beginning of time. lol.
The 220 one is too big for what I need.

Thanks for the offer, Dave. I'll keep it in mind.
I'm actually still searching for the cam that Randy suggested in my other thread.

If you can not find the correct ELGIN camshaft, the Howard's that you found would probably be a decent alternative.
Though, It would need to be advance more that how it is ground.
A timing set with a 9 position crank gear would make this an easy thing.
