Anybody here have any experience with the latest 5.0 crate motors and what kind of power they can handle?

What needs modified or would it be better to build from a core?

I've got 1200-1500 tame hp on my mind

Dave, from what i've read the 2015 and up 5.0 Coyotes have better internals then the 2011-2014's.

Same here, but so far everything I've found says Pistons, Rods and sleeves need replace at 800-1000hp up

No expert for sure but everything I have read says stock shortblock is good for 1000 hp at the crank.

MMR has shortblocks starting around $5-6K for the power level you are looking for.

Same here.  There's a guy in town with a 2016 he bought new and stuck a twin kit on soon after he got home.  Will have to see if he'll tell me how much he's making...  He probably won't but he's destroyed a beefed up factory automatic trans already because of it.

I have two friends with bone stock 14 & 15's with Hellion turbo kits and they run 10.5's with nothing more than a converter change on street tires. These are both bone stock cars, no light weight anything. Yesterday I heard one of them torched a piston. I know a couple other guys with modified internals up in the range you are talking. These are high 7 second street cars and get driven. Earl Schexnayder owns one of them along with several other turbo BBF's. I'll send you a fb message with his info as he has built several and can offer first hand experience.

Do the truck motors and Mustang motors interchange? Differences?

Stole from LMR

F150 Coyote Engine

10.5:1 Compression Ratio
Milder Cam Profile for More Torque at Lower RPM's
Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds
Tuned for Towing
Front Mounted Oil Cooler
No Windage Tray
Front Cover Moves Alternator Further out to the Side

Mustang Coyote Engine

Stainless Steel Exhaust Manifolds
11.0:1 Compression Ratio
Higher Revving Cam Profile
Tuned for Performance
Bigger Oil Pump Gears

THE F150 COYOTE MOTOR

In 2011 Ford debuted the all new 5.0L in the Ford F150. Replacing the 5.4L and 4.6L V-8 options from the previous years. Even though this motor's compression ratio is lower than the Mustangs, it still made decent power from the factory. This all new F150 5.0L made an impressive 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. This was achieved using a smaller intake cam for more torque, different valve job on exhaust valve for increased cooling in high loads, exhaust manifolds and obviously the tune.
What is the Difference Between a Coyote F150 Engine and a Coyote Mustang Enigne? - What is the Difference Between a Coyote F150 Engine and a Coyote Mustang Enigne?

THE MUSTANG COYOTE MOTOR

The Mustang Coyote Engine was debuted in 2011 also in the all new redesigned Mustang. This Mustang specific 5.0L Coyote boasted higher compression, 11.0:1 to be exact. Which is .5 higher than the F150 coyote engine. The Mustang 5.0L Coyote made 412 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the F150 Coyote, the 11-12 Mustang included piston cooling jets. However, Ford dropped the cooling jets in 2013 stating "it wasn't needed".
