Carb's and size.........

Getting a 2x4 low profile, duel plane intake, with the heat crossover for street use,  and was wondering what would be a good (brand/pair) of carbs to get? (new)..
Also what size should I be looking for? 450---600????
Motor: 521'' 10.5 with a custom roller. 4-speed trans. 4:10 gear.....iron CJ heads,, not sure on the cam spec's yet. Just picking up parts for a new build.

AFB's, one
Edelbrock
Marine 600 made by Weber and a Old Carter 625 on my 351W and they were OK. They where by far not the new Edelbrock stuff either, take that for what you will. On a big inch warmed over Big Block I would be looking at Holley 660 center squirters or 750 Vacuum Secondaries converted to side hung bowls or even double pumpers with metering plates on the secondaries and side hung bowls. Convention carb sizing rules don't really apply to tunnel rams and dual quads in my opinion. For what the Edelbrock's cost new now, if you were to go the AFB route, I would be looking for some 426 Hemi Cores to work over if you can find them at a decent price.

I am kind of going for the one in the first link Post#3 for now just because I had the carbs. and am only 429 inchs and a mild cam and lowish compression. If I was building what you are describing I would definetly be going a different route and likely breaking out my Holley List# 6109 750 Dual Quad 750's for the program. The second link has some good info also. I would read and research all you can before you make any decisions or purchases. You can also mount the 4150 center hung carbs sideways with adapter plates and a nice linkage for a few more bucks.

PS: Notice
the 1" spacer plates in the first link to clear the large dist. cap for front mounted inline quads.

Supervel45 very good read there. At this point just getting things together, This is a path I've never been down before. Going for the old WOW factor with performance. Please keep the experience's and ideas coming.
Trying to get the "RIGHT CARBS" the first time. Carb clearance? vacuum sec?  600/750?  choke/no-choke?
This Eng will be at least 550hp to 600hp.

I have come to the conclusion that just like camshafts that carburetors are always a compromise and there is no exactly right choice, just what you can make work best all around. Otherwise we would all be running Dual Dominators and Pro Stock camshafts. I still think you would be best served by a couple of 750 Holley's.

Ideally we want about 1200 cfm of carb on the engine. That said, ideally means you want two 1150 dominators for all out performance on a tunnel ram or sheet metal intake.

Dual plane twin carbs, your covering a different dilemma, ideal, two 600 cfm carbs, Holley actually has a carb offering that is a 600 cfm 1-1 linkage twin carb application. I am sure any of the trick builders can set you up similarly.

I wouldn't put an edelbrock on a lawn mower. Its a carter that is not done well. Carbs are very basic, a step above a string from a gravity feed can. But there are better ways to tune than bending shit.

Actually the 1x1's I believe you are refering to are 4224's and are 660's like the ones above in the link and are intended for Small Blocks with tunnel rams.

Their Big Brother no longer made was intended for Hot Big Block Tunnel Rams and Dual Quad setups.

750's are right in the Middle and #6109's are them, also no longer made I believe and they were not center squirters but conventional DP's with correct idle circuits for dual use.

You would have to use a 1" offset spacer for the Center Hung Bowls mounted inline it looks like But, Dual Metering Blocks with the 1/2" spacers should work with no problem and the Conversion is Simple and straight Forward with a long transfer tube. Square Holley Bowls come on Holley List #6709's Stock with Dual inlets on opposite sides stock also. Put'EM Anyway Anyhow you like'EM and Any Size where you want  on It.
