My brothers and I took a road trip yesterday to Villa Rica, GA and checked out this rig and it is now mine. 2001 F350 with the 7.3 and auto trans, 158,000 miles on the odometer. Purred like a kitten cat  all the way home Twisted Evil . Needs a little TLC but nothing major.

And a chip from Jody at DP Tuner! I've had mine for 10 years in my 2001 7.3.

I tried a few other brands of tuning and they didn't have the torque that Jody's has. I have not tried the TW stuff. I may try it when I put bigger injectors in. Jon, can you recommend injectors for mine?

Just from my experience with my '99....

3" exhaust... a cold air intake and a Super Chips tuner...
That's what's on mine... you've seen how it works...lol Cool

If you can deal w the extra noise the factory IH 175 single shots work awesome... They wont take as much oil to run as a spitshot. Will take custom chip and a few fuel sys mods that helps um anyways.

Nice truck. In my 03 I have a DP tuner, 4" exhaust and the Wix air filter with a home made cold air intake. The thing just blows the tires off all the time with a towing tune. I have never tried any other tuners but my transmission does some funky shifting some times. I have had it for over 6 years so maybe the tune is better now.

I have to agree with Randy on this I put the 3'' down pipe and 4'' Exhaust out the rear mine pick up mpg and power I never use 1st gear unless I going to pull something mine has the 5 speed. Mine was getting 13.5 before changing the exhaust and putting cold air intake system home made now it get 15.4 mpg back and forth to work. The factory down pipe is peace of crap to put the 3'' you have to make some mods to the cab so it will clear but not real hard to do.

Doug nice looking truck and it low mileage for a 7.3

4 inch all the way from the turbo back I have a 6 position bullydog chip and don't freagin use it it don't need a chip with the exhaust. mine has 300000 on it and will still break the tires loose on take off if I push it...I am going to put new injectors in it and a fresh turbo soon... I feel 3000000 it might like it...

Is there any easy way to tell if the PCM has already been reprogramed? Stock air box has been replaced with what looks to be a K&N type filter, and I haven't crawl under it yet but the exhaust appears to be bigger than stock. I will have to replaced the brake controller, it's a Hopkins Insight Flex Mount, and the little monitor that was stuck on top of the dash is missing.

get rid of the k and n, 01 will not have the flat dp like the 94.5-97 does. no need for a 4" dp.....you can get a system that goes from the dp back.

01 auto is gonna have the dreaded mech diode in the intermediate that is prone to fail.....chances are its been replaced already.

if you do a chip you'll need to have the accumulator in the trans modded, its an easy swap and the right way to do it over changing the pressures w the chip. otherwise the added power will burn the clutches as the accumulator is calibrated for x amount of power from the factory. Adding a big trans cooler like from a 6.0 is a good idea also

I put 4" exhaust on mine and the boost went up a few lbs, but I didn't feel any more power. The chip made a huge difference. Jon, what power increase are these injectors you are talking about? I have the regulated return and all the fuel system mods and the 38R turbo. I think my HPOP is way down. Last time I checked it, it was down around 1900 lbs at WOT.

Exhaust alone aint gonna do much for power.

Hard to say what power gains they will have, i never dynoed after i installed mine, i dont lay rubber with it but it will flat pull the f-ck out of a trailer.... Thats all i need it to do.

Sounds like you have the supporting mods done already.

Jon, typically what do the Ford dealers charge for a complete service check on these diesels? I'm going to take it to a local dealer and have them check out a start issue (a little hard to start when engine is cold) and while they're at just service the whole thing.

More than likely it's the Glow plugs. At 150,000 they might not be up to the task of building heat in the combustion chamber. Another is the intake air heater. This coil warms the incoming air to help fire the fuel charge. The heater isn't likely to fail, but the solenoid that controls it could have taken a dump.

You've got a great platform for years of great service. 300 to 400 hundred thousand is typical for a stock lower end if the engine is well serviced. Expect the injectors to give up the ghost at around 100,000 miles, same for the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) this pump drives the injectors. Weak or poor pressure and injector performance drops off and things get Smokey.

I've ran Bean's, Swamp's and DP tunes. I run the DP tunes. If you can get you truck live tuned this will be the best of any of the tuners.
Can tunes are like a one size fits all shirt.  I've had my truck live tuned and the difference is not even comparable in the least to canned tunes.

Here's my 7.3...
