NHRA has an image to protect and a heritage to uphold. They were born out of providing a safe place for people to race. It's no surprise to me that they sent out the letters. As a professional racing organization, they have to draw a line in the sand at some point or they are seen as hypocritical and their legitimacy suffers.

It's a double edged sword for NHRA for sure. The SO phenomenon has certainly boosted track attendance and participation around the country as everybody and their dog has a "list" or whatever going on.

I have to wonder, if they are such outlaws, why do they even care if they have a comp license or not? Lol

Also, the letters say that further participation "may" result in the indefinite suspension of their comp license. I don't think anyone has been suspended yet. This was just their warning shot across the bow.

Just another drum of high octane drama fuel. Haha

Nhra just doesn't get it...... The program they are running is so stale and old, people want to see something other than a few pro corporate sponsored mega teams.
People love the outlaw stuff and the grass roots racing.

Yup. NHRA is working overtime to ensure its own irrelevance to real racers.

Yep! Andrade and BoostedGT were at our local track last weekend. Heard there was a long wait to get in the gates. Funny how the few promoters that throw together these local grudge races draw more people than the typical monthly program does.

People want to see the "unknown factor" of grudge racing...

I think they 'get' it, but I don't think they are letting tv ratings or their perceived popularity influence their position.

Change the players: If a high profile NRA member suddenly began a super popular TV show glorifying "outlaw hunting" (aka poaching) you can bet your ass the NRA would try to put as much distance between that member and themselves as possible. It might be popular and draw people into the sport of hunting and shooting, but it does so in a manner that disparages what the NRA stands for.

I really think this is just a CYA move instigated by lawyers.

Agree, this is what the 3rd season? Why didn't NHRA do this when season 1 started, they probably thought it would only go a season or two, then die out, which it has not, now they are starting to bitch.

I think that the NHRA and Street outlaws should find away to work together and spin it to help get people to the track. HollyWood can be pretty creative sometimes, so I am sure they could find away. I bet if Big Wille was still around, and would come on the show as an opposing character for pro track side of racing, the viewership would go way up. Unforinately RIP Big Wille is no longer with us, but a character along his lines would be easy to create, and would give the show a new twist. Just have some of the Street Outlaws come over to the new pro track camp, and let some stay on the street, as the Vilans that need to be saved and reformed, be a of the plot, and keep the series moving along. Use a major crash or bust as the reason for the change of views of the main charactor's Win Win for everyone, at least as for as I can see.

The show Adam 12 did the a plot along these lines in the late 60's or early 70's in a episode and the LA police gave Big Wille his start, to help calm racial tensions and stop street racing. Street Outlaws could also form an organization like Street Racer's  Inc. and have something going after the show runs it's course, if they wanted to. They also need to be keeping and option in the plot for a movie off the series if the can. NHRA should not have issued the letters the way they did, if they are serious about getting street racer's to the track, in my opinion. They could still use all the bad publicity they got from them in a positve way still, if they want to.

Seems like all the "Street Outlaws" have to do is rent a Dragstrip and do it right. I don't agree with the NHRA control at all but, it might send a "good" message to the young racers. Might help to open more dragstrips, too. Of course the "Street Outlaws" might have to change the name of the show, heaven forbid Rolling Eyes .
