IDENTIFY BLOCK Empty IDENTIFY BLOCK

Post  ROADSTER May 28th 2013, 6:00 pm

Day Custom Engines, Garland, TX is currently rebuilding my 429. The only numbers they have been able to find on the block are "460" cast backwards on the front and rear of the casting plus the number "9Y118503". What does this number tell me? The heads have casting number C9VE-A which, I understand, are nothing special...probably cast in 1969.

Thanks,
ROADSTER

9Y118503". That's part of the v.i.n. It was in a 1969 car.

Lem, Thanks for your reply. Is it typical to have only the VIN on the block?

It should have C8VE, C9VE or D0VE casting on the side of the block.

Is it very light that its Barely legible or is the block all rusty?

I do not understand the 'only' question.

"9' is the year......Y is the plant the car was built in .

The block was thoroughly cleaned inside & out removing all paint and rust. Any numbers should be visible especially, on the outside of the block. We could find no other numbers but what appears to be a VIN number. I have a book with all the 429/460 block ID numbers...this block has none of them. Since the heads are marked C9VE-A, I expected to find C8VE or C8VY-A or C9VY-A or C9VE-B cast in the side of the block near the freeze plugs. We found nothing. It does have push in freeze plugs which, as I understand, FORD used on standard 429/460 blocks.

Thanks for your response
